I’ve found a few freeware and shareware utilities that will do what I want (I think)
on a PC, but since I’ve gone completely Mac I can’t use them.

And play with what is considered black and white (or at least the white). Back in the analog
days when black was 16 and white was 235 it was easy (we made white about 226). Even now
with digital blaqck at 0 I think it still looks best to keep whites down to 230 or less.

Also, no intention to offend. I’ve called women dudette before and a few times they found the “ette” sexist simular to “ress” at the end of actress. I found that woman like being called dude in person but maybe because I’m writing in a forum, it’s impossible to know that I’m calling everyone dude. Dude has so many meanings! In the future, I think I just say something like “Hey good people of the world, I need your help”.

At least in FCP4 there was (and probably still is in v5) a good reason to go directly to
Compressor, higher quality, transitions were not rendered into whatever codec you’re using first, Compressor
deals with them directly. Check this out:

So, since it’s not UB they may not want it, and maybe you have a chance to educate them (that’s what we do with
ignorant clients, isn’t it?). Tell them it’s dead and inform them of the much better apps
available to compress to a dying format. 🙂

Do you mean universal binary? Or universal in the sense that it compresses to every format?
It’s not UB, and yes it compresses to Real.

It’s definitely better to have the right format for each region. PAL even looks better than NTSC
when they’re each played on the correct players (it’s a higher resolution format, and with lower
bandwidth). The original question was whether you can put both formats on one DVD. In that context
I said that putting just NTSC on the DVD will work. And it sounds like they don’t have a “Hollywood” budget. 🙂
