You’re right about the compatibility. I’m thinking more about what products support it.
The Blackmagic and Aja products only output 4:4:4 RGB (although they support YUV in 4:4:4).
The one exception I know from them is the Decklink Multibridge which *does* support 4:4:4 YUV.
Bluefish only does RGB too. Not sure about the others.
It’s weird that there isn’t a more definite source on-line for all of this. I expect that with marketing
hype, but even the geeky sites say different things. I’ll look into the 99% is 4:4:4 YUV and 100% is RGB thing.
I have my doubts, but I’m wrong often enough, to be ready for it again. 🙂

Not me, but you might try trashing your prefs to see if it goes away. Maybe Verify Permissions too.

Not sure if this will affect what you’re doing (or planning), since you’ll be using Animation,

Frames won’t lose resolution. Yes, you can eliminate the QT part, but why would you?
It doesn’t affect the quality, and if you don’t stitch it all together in QT first, you’ll have
to piece it together in FCP.
Ed (did I say it’s *all* in the manual? read it, then if you still have a question, ask) -
And After Effects works pretty good too. If you’re going to do it in PS, you can export the clip from FCP,
using QT Conversion, as a numbered Image Sequence. When you’re done working on it,
open it in QT Pro, which can convert it into a QT movie for easy import back into FCP.
Look in the manual, it’s all there.

I’m sure there are a bunch of people editing simple DV projects with them. The problem
with USB2 is that although it’s throughput is theoretically faster than Firewire, it doesn’t
handle large files, like video, as well. I think you’ll run into problems with DV when you
have multiple streams.

My tip is to look in the manual. Try typing in “duplicate settings” if you’re looking at the on-line manual.
There’s a “duplicate settings” button right at the top right of the settings window.
It’s spelled out pretty clearly in the manual.
