I’m glad you chose an unbiased source like Adobe to prove market penetration of their own product. 🙂
It may not be a problem for some folks to get an “Upgrade Your Flash” message, but in some worlds (the corporate world, for example) you can’t upgrade. Only your IT department can upgrade to the latest, or even penultimate, version of QT, Flash, or Windows.
I like Flash, I like H.264, but not all my clients can see H.264 in Flash yet. If yours can, then by all means give them the best video you can.

Yes, Flash 9 can handle it, but penetration of Flash 9 may be a while away. It only came out recently. H.264 needs QT7 or Flash 9. I can’t wait for Flash 9 to be on everyone’s computers, but it’s going to be a while. I encode to H.264 all the time, but I don’t use it in Flash yet. I’m still using ON2VP6 for .flvs.

No, I use it (or used to use it before going to HDV) all the time with Beta and my AJA IOLA.

Because Media 100 didn’t capture it as Uncompressed. I know the latest versions of M100 did do UC, but when I used it, the highest data rate was 300. If you use the DV50 codec, you’ll be able to use a single drive, and it looks pretty good too.

How could you tell that from her vague post? It may be that she’s watching the video on her computer and it looks out of sync. But, if that’s the case then throw away that part of my suggestion, go with the drive part of the suggestion. 🙂

But the MOTU does hardware acceleration of DVCProHD and SD. This from their site:

And now you can use H.264 in Flash, although it will take a while for the newer players that can play it to penetrate. So, I agree that ON2VP6 is the best way to go for .flvs

You say you were told you need a RAID, which implies that you don’t have one. That would further suggest that you’re trying to capture to a single drive. And, you said you were using 8bit UC (and 10bit, and others). First, I would be amazed if you got uninterupted playback of 8bit UC from a single drive, although a fast SATA drive may allow it, but as soon as you add effects and have more than a single video stream (dissolve or anything else) the single drive won’t cut it. As for the sync issue, that’s the nature of FireWire and the IO. The recent firmware versions have lowered the offset from 7 frames to (maybe) zero, but maybe not. As Walter said, check the frame offset, it may need to be at zero (or maybe a frame or 2). A single drive will handle DV50 much better, and it looks pretty good. I would use that before slinking all the way down to DV just to save yourself from getting an array.
