As David suggests for striping. You may want to do a little research on the “turn off Jornaling” though. There are 2 camps on this, one says do it on media drives, one says don’t. For instance, David, Walter Biscardi, and others say don’t, Ciprico (formerly Huge Systems) says leave Journaling on for their RAID systems, as does Apple:

I think the basic argument against is that Journaling slows drive performance, the basic argument for is that it helps find indexed files, with only a negligable hit on performance.

I misspoke. You can shoot the 900 in 1080 as 23.98P or pA. But 24P is only 720. (But P is still not i!)

First, you can shoot 24P (or) 1080i, they’re different things, so it has to be one or the other. The 900 shoots at 1080i or 720P, so if it’s 24P it’s 720 not 1080. P is progressive i is interlaced, you can’t do both at the same time (unless you have a camera that shoots its P by changing i into P in the camera (which I’m pretty sure the 900 doesn’t). And he’s working in 5.1 with ProRes? I don’t think so.
So if he’s shooting 1080i, is he looking at it on a computer monitor? If so, he needs to view on a video monitor.

I use both VP6 and H.264, and I think H.264 might have a slight edge in quality, but not phenomenal.
As for penetration of Flash 9, it’s 9.0.115 that introduced H.264 and that penetration is lessthan 9.0 (83.3% in the US and 78.6% in Europe, according to Adobe’s site and June report):

The other thing is that there are still some glitches for some people using H.264 in Flash which have nothing to do with quality. Do a search and you’ll find more info about that.

I see in your profile you have a G5 Dual2g. Apple says this about H.264 and G5s:

H.264 is a computer hog. What Mac do you have? Is the processor(s) fast enough, do you have plenty of RAM, etc.?

OT- P.S. I remember an 8 or 9 year old kid serving cervezas to me in Nogales, and his boss/dad/uncle smacking him and taking the tip we gave the boy. We saw him outside later and sneaked him a dollar (he liked that). Oh, and the cheap Zapotecan blankets too (found out later they weren’t wool, but a polyester, no wonder they were so cheap). 🙂

I like BitVice too, but it really makes lousy QTs and WMVs. 🙂
