    Gary,
Sorry buddy, but here’s the DV Guys interview with Jan at NAB: https://www.dvguys.com/audio/dvg05_04_21.m4b confirming what I said.
She says (at the very beginning of her interview) that the camera will record 1080i, 720p, DVCPro50, and DVCPro25 at various frame rates, to P2 *only*, and standard DV (distinct from DVPro25) to tape.

    Hi all,
Not sure where Tom got his info, but he is indeed incorrect. Firewire is available in 25M, 50M, and 100M. And the only HD output is Analog Component.
    Hope that helps,
    Jan

What?! The camera is $6,000, has a tape drive and P2 slots. P2 cards cost you more (a lot more). You CANNOT record DV50 or DV100 to tape (P2 only).

Sorry Ed but that is not correct, I spent a good deal of time with the product manager when she spoke at the FCPUG meeting at NAB and I checked
what I said against the Powerpoint shown to the group. “

I’m assuming when you say 1T that you mean the Bigger Disk, not the Big Disk. The reason I want to clarify that is that when the Bigger Disk first came out, speed tests showed that it performed slower than the Big Disk. Even though a 4 drive raid normally performs faster than a 2 drive raid, having them all connected through one FW connection (channel) hindered performance. This may have since changed, but I just wanted to point it out.

April 24, 2005 at 3:01 pm in reply to: Opinion on purchase of AJA IO

The IO LA is analog only, so I guess it depends how your Digi-Beta outputs. As for FW800 drives, I agree with Mitch etal about SATA *unless* you plan on using a laptop, or need to move the project video to other machines, that’s where FW is the answer. There are no SATA cardbus cards for Mac, so FW is the only laptop solution. AJA recommends the LaCie FW card. I have been using one for months with no problems.

Just so ya know, the IO uses a FW400 connection.

[gary adcock] “Let me clear up a couple of Misconceptions I have heard about the HDX-200

The $6000.00 version of the camera is uses DV Tape, On the $9000.000 version with 720p 24 you get about 20 minutes per card and you can hot swap them. All you need to remove the contents from the card is to plug it into the PCA slot on a laptop and copy. it will take about 5 min, to copy the contents of the 8 gig card. Yes it does have a FW 400 connection.

you get VFR capture when using the P2 system, but it supports 24p 30p and 60i in 1080 / 720 / 480 when recording to tape. The tape and cards record DV25 / DV50 / DV100 —- NOT MPEG.

The Scene markers are seen by FCP’s DV Start / Stop detection.

Both SMTPE 601 and 709 bars and tone.

The camera Mic is actually usable in the P2 modes as there is no tape transport to generate noise.

    Oh did I say it’s NOT MPEG …. “

If you’re connected to a network with both machines, only one copy will work. FCP will quit on both machines if you try to open your 2nd copy while networked.

April 22, 2005 at 2:09 pm in reply to: Reduced latency soon

I agree with Tony! about comparing apples to apples. For us, the advantage of the IO is the portability (from desktop to laptop), the latency is ‘almost’ not an issue. The side benefit of choosing the IO was the incredible customer support from AJA. Not owning a BM product, I can’t say with certainty how their customer support is, but if posts on their forum is any indication, I made the right choice.

As Nick and Bogie said, it can be any number of things. Here is the fix that worked for me:

go to finder, go, go to folder
    type /etc/
    view as icons
locate “hostconfig” and COMMAND then click on file and drag to desktop.

Things like FireWire and video codecs have often been described in bits, not bytes. For example FireWire 400 is so named because (in theory at least) it can move 400Mbs (MegaBits). DV25 is a 25MegaBit format, etc. The people who have interchanged bytes and bits are ill-informed, the industry terms have been constant.
