It’s not about the toys; it’s about the work. But I guess you want to use the same software as large companies for shared work, and employment prospects. There is AvidProTools, and AppleLogicPro, among others.

Oh yeah. And, the PMW-EX1 camcorder would go perfectly with your VP8. 3 x 1/2″ CMOS chips full HD 24p true 16:9 aspect, 2 x XLR audio !

Check again your encoding settings. Yes, Vegas8 is more ready for Vista than Vegas7…However, Vista is still needs improvement (Vista requires the fastest latest hardware max RAM, or else as you know it’ll also be slow aside from that encoding problem). If after others’ advice and the problem persists, just re-install Windows XP sp2 on new PC.

  • It depends on what you intend to use cam for. PV-GS500 is great for the money and mainly personal use, or where client doesn’t require HD or 24p. If your job is video production, then it’s better to go with an HD/SD varicam.(recommend: Panasonic AGHVX-200, Canon XL-H1)

I’ve heard that there is no such thing as too much RAM. With P4, maximum RAM is needed to handle HDV with speed. Put as much as the motherboard can support. And, for as long as XP-sp2 works fine, stay away from Vista until absolutely necessary. Without the fastest latest hardware, Vista is very slow.

(Unless Vista is absolutely required, and until uncompressed video is edited, upgrading to dual or quad is wasting money. Concentrate on the work, not the toys — Example: Paul Thomas Anderson edited his first film using only two VHS decks.)

thanx. How can I make a still-image of a video frame on the timeline, aside from copying to Photoshop?

I’ve checked the manual, and it says that clipboard contents are seen on the VideoPreview. But, is there a window for Clipboard in particular, that displays the cut or copied event-portions?(Maybe a Clipboard window that looks similar to EditDetails, or MediaPool?)

thanx. After saving an edited timeline with timecode-script, can that file be opened and the timecode-script be removed before encoding to mpeg2? I’ve opened a saved AVI edit, and I’ve tried clicking TOOLS >SCRIPTING >REMOVE TIMECODE FROM ALL MEDIA for event in media pool, but the timecode remains.
