    Dale:

I believe somewhere I read a bit about this link you sent. I’m actually starting to think it’s a great idea for commercials and interviews. Anything where it’s not a pain to tie down the camera. Also the FRC ability of the unit is nice to have on set. Load it right into the computer. The client walks away with the tape as well.

I would have to agree that a camera mounted P2 unit would be handy, but it might be somewhat limited in it’s functions.

The only time I had a problem with the TC resetting to 0:0:0:0:0 was when the internal battery was dead. Then when the onboard camera battery change was made the TC would reset to 0’s. And if your cameraman was using an AC power supply to shoot the interviews then whenever he powered it down, it would reset TC as well. Try to remember back to the shoot and see if this is a possibility.

Can’t help you with the software conversion for TC.

A transcription house or client not understanding how to read TC off an audio track?…….. I won’t even bother trying to answer that one. I’ve heared it before.

    Good Luck

Passengers are allowed an unlimited number of spare batteries whose equivalent lithium content per battery is less than 8 gr. (90Wh batteries). Each passenger can also carry no more than two lithium-ion batteries that contain more than 8 gr. of equivalent lithium content per battery, this includes 120Wh,150Wh and higher models.

So pack all your 90Wh bateries in the belly of the plane and then cary only two of anything greater on board. I’ve been gaffer taping two of the larger batteries together, mounting it on the camera and making them look as one. No problems so far.

    Thanks Noah:

The 900 footage was masked to letterbox to match the HVX-200 material and works great for final product.

    Thanks for your input,

    Dusty

    Jeremy

Thanks for your quick response. I suggested that we use the squeezed mode because of my last experience, but letterbox ended up being the choice.

Can the footage be enlarged to match without it looking to crappy? or…. Can the SDX footage be downsized to match the HVX footage? The final product will be dubbed to SD NTSC.

    Thanks,

    dupo

  • Your filter wheel was most likely rolled to “A” which is often a “star filter”. Try “B”, “C” or “D” and see if the effect goes away.

    Hey David:

Make sure you have a good padded case and good insurance. I’ve carried my cameras for a long time, but ended up checking them over the last 10 years. I got tired of worrying about overhead space. I’ve never had a damaged or lost a camera. I’ve also made sure all my cases had large common idenity markings, but non-detailed about the contents. I try to keep the thiefs honest. I also put large numbers on all my cases and keep a separate notebook listing what’s inside each.

    Safe travels,

    Hey Bruce:

I can understand your thoughts. Hollywood is a 1080p town and you just don’t walk on the Sony Lot with a Varicam. When Hollywood comes to me I have to rent a 1080p system. I can’t sell them on the Varicam. But that’s Hollywood. I am willing to bet that Sony will come out with a switchable 720p/1080i multi-format / variable frame-rate camera in the near future. They will have to in order to stay competitive as will all the other camera companies.

March 18, 2006 at 3:05 pm in reply to: Another greenscreen (paint) question

How good is the greenscreen scene file setup for the Varicam that has been floating around? Is it worth downloading and include it when I shoot my tests? Do you know what menu changes are made on this particular scene file that may be helpful with keying?
