A lens that’s 1.8 or 1.7 wide open should get a decent image at night and will require a little bit of gain unless an object or image is really bright. I throw in a little gain for night time skylines and city streets. If you’re not getting a good image, then something is wrong. Still you have to have some light to get an exposure.
Are you wide open on these night shots? Are you setting your exposure based on the zebras? If so, where are your zebras set? Where is your low-light level indicator set? Default is 35%. You should be able to set your Filter Wheels at 1B then set your WB switch to Preset and shoot.

No confusion here Robin. You already stated you were in Japan onin your earlier post. I was attemping to enlighten others of my experience with the filter wheel problem so there would be no confusion on their part. (thinking they would have to send it back to Japan) Just trying to help other owners find an easy solution.
The place I use to service my camera did offer to replace my filter wheel with the same type of wheel, but it would have cost me for the part plus labor. They suggested that I send it back to a Panasonic facility to get the upgraded filter wheel so I wouldn’t have this problem again. As I mentioned ealier, it just cost me shipping.

I just ordered and received a DVI-HDMI adapter for one of my computers. I about paid 4 bucks for it and odered it from a web site which ships from China.
Just beware that there are 4 or 5 types of DVI connectors. So make sure you order the correct one on that end. You might want to check out the following site just for DVI connector info before you order anything from the web. It might save you some time and as well as some money.

Rumors travel fast. I experienced the filter wheel slipping problem on my HDX a year ago. I was told at the time that Panasonic was aware of the problem and that a replacement filter wheel was in the works. I contacted Panasonic in NJ a week later and sent my camera to them. They replaced the filter wheel with the new one for no charge and had the camera back to me within a few days. Problem was solve. And it did not go back to the factory in Japan.

I do not have the Avid software version. I’ve asked if it was the latest and did not get a response.
The mxf files were given to them on a WD HD which I checked and verified all was there with Adobe CS3. The files were correctly transfered to the HD from the P2.
I heard today that they actually sent the WD HD to Avid to have them troubleshoot the problem.
I think it’s a Avid P2 driver update problem. I’ve experienced so many times in the past 35 years technical problems getting blamed on cameras and cameramen when in fact the problem was on the post side because of one’s lack of knowledge.

Had the same problem. Panasonic has the replacement part now. Sent my HDX-900 to Panasonic last month and they replaced the plastic gear with a metal one for no charge.

I recently purchased a Dell XPS 1730 PC to run CS3. The unit has an express card slot so I picked up the Duel Adapter to off load my P2 Cards. It doesn’t work on this PC, but it works on my other PC with the Express card slot. All the updated drivers are installed.
I’m tired of having to use 2 PCs for my work flow. I spent two days on the phone trying to get Dell to trouble shoot this and that was useless and a waste of my time. Duel was not very helpful either. After researching the possible problems on the net, I’m starting to believe the problem is due to the NVidia graphics card in the Dell XPS 1730 not supporting the Duel Adapter.
Any suggested work around with this. Do any of these P2 readers connect via firewire or USB 2.0 in to the PC?
Anyone heard of problems with the NVidia/Duel Adapter combo?
Would appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks,

Jesse and John:
I appreciate your input guys. Jesse, this is camera to camera, no production switcher involved.
I’ve always daisy chained the timecode on the betacams in the past. I’ve also made sure to genlock the cameras with a DA after learning this the hard way. (white clitches in the video every 10-15 seconds)I still have guys try to tell me genlock is not important. If they continue to insist then I tell other camera crew to be on the slave end of the timecode. I’ll be the master and drive the timecode. They usually will change their mind at that point.
The few multiple HD camera shoots I’ve done were configured this same way and I’ve not experienced any problems. Have I been lucky with just using a small DA for distributing genlock?
Can I not do this the same way with 2 HD cameras @ 23.98 of the same flavor? Or do I need a Lockit Box or such as well for sync? And if I use a sync box what is the proper set up for the daisy chain.
I ask these questions because I’m having this question asked to me and I want to make sure it’s right.
Thanks,
Dusty
