Do you have a link to the video on Youtube? What are the dimensions of the video you uploaded – 1920×1080? It could be you have a non-square pixel aspect ratio and Youtube doesn’t know how to handle it.

Before uploading to Youtube I always transcode my media to H.264 with a frame size of 1920×1080 or 1280×720 with a pixel aspect ratio of 1:1 (square). I’ve never had any issues using these settings.

Tim may have used iShowU but I recently found a website that lets you record your screen for free without installing anything. https://www.screenr.com/ take a look, it might be something of use

  • [Timothy Payton] “Seriously, if you haven’t purchased it and are thinking “oh it will be cool, it can’t be that bad”. Just hold that thought, and hold onto your credit card for about a month. Get back to work and do some projects.”

Thanks… I needed that. I’ve been spending way too much time on these forums reading about a product that I know won’t have the functionality I need for at least the next 6 months. Time to get back to work.

Yeah, I’m trying to figure out if FCPX is worth even giving a shot but there’s so much misinformation right now.

    • Do I HAVE to use the Magnetic timeline or does switching from Select mode to Position mode really make the FCPX timeline work like FCP7?

    • Is there really no way to copy/paste transform, crop, distort, etc… across clips or is it just that we haven’t discovered how yet?

    • What about passing projects between editors? Walt and Rich’s podcast made it sound like that’s nearly impossible but according to https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/335/4631#4631“>this post it’s rather easy… Who’s right?”

I have more questions but right now everybody still seems to be in the learning phase so it’s hard to make an educated decision.

  • [Banks Meador] “ALL YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE ARE EFFECTS. Can’t copy and paste transform, crop, distort, etc. “

…whaaaat? Damn. I was considering purchasing FCPX in the hopes that one day Apple will update it with all the lacking features but there are just soooo many things missing I doubt it would speed up my workflow.

    This is ridiculous.

I haven’t run into that exact problem but something similar. I would try R-Clicking on the clips and going to Item Properties > Format… and make sure the Alpha and Composit is the same for both clips.

Yeah, I was afraid of that…

Seems like something the FCP community would have found a workaround for by now though – we’ve had these problems for quite some time now. Hopefully FCP X addresses these issues.

It’s really not that complicated – all footage is kept on an external drive dedicated to storing footage and all projects are on an external drive dedicated to storing projects. The reason I split the footage and projects up is because I typically have to pull footage from multiple shoots for one production – so if I were to archive all footage used in a production with the project file and other media I might have 5 duplicates of the same footage across 5 projects, and that takes up a lot of unnecessary space.

Thanks for the suggestion though! I would definitely work like you if I could.
