That’s pretty cool, but if you only bought one copy would it allow you to use FCPX on multiple systems at the same time or would you get an error message about someone else already having it open?

For anyone else looking to revamp their delivery workflow here’s a few options I’ve discovered:
Media Batch Pro
Screen Light
Mobile Me with iDisk
Dropbox
Vimeo Plus
Wistia
Wiredrive

For me, I want my deliverables to be private, password protected and viewable online – I believe all the website listed above have those features except for iDisk and Dropbox (but I might be wrong). Vimeo has the lowest priced plan by far and I really like their player so that may be what I end up going with.

Shane, how do you handle revision comments? Do you create a user for each of your clients and have them comment on your videos using the account you set up for them or another way?

I’m not sure a broadcast monitor would solve your problem – if you’re viewing your video in Final Cut as well as Quicktime (H.264 from Sorenson) and your website all on the same monitor and they’re all showing different colors, then the differences have nothing to do with your monitor and everything to do with the programs your viewing it in. If you hooked up a broadcast monitor and viewed the video in the same 3 programs you’d run into the same problem – the broadcast monitor doesn’t override Final Cut/Quicktime/Firefox’s handing of colors so they would all still appear different.

In addition, if your videos are going to live on the web alone and only be viewed online by someone with a computer monitor, why calibrate for/with a device no one will watch it on?

In your Quicktime preferences if you check ‘Enable Final Cut Studio Compatibility’ then Quicktime will display your video with the same colors as Final Cut. This does not actually change your video at all, just how Quicktime on your machine displays it’s colors – so it’ll still appear the same way in your web browser and really doesn’t solve anything.

It’s a headache, I’ve never been able to get an H.264 to not shift the gamma and colors from the original. You might check out X.264, it appears to be able to do just that. However, I wouldn’t suggest using it for any professional work as I’ve found it has a lot of bugs.

If you watch this video on youtube.com you can choose which blending mode to view it in (like Red/Cyan). Wouldn’t that be 3D?

The m4v and mp4 files will always require rendering in Final Cut because they are not a native editing codec – to get around this, just make sure you convert them to a codec like Apple ProRes before bringing them in to edit.

The framerate of the images displayed in the Browser doesn’t matter, they’ll conform to whatever framerate your timeline is once you drop them in.

A few questions before we can answer:
• How large are the images (pixels and file size) you’re trying to move?
• How are you moving them? Simple Motion tab keyframing or some sort of plugin?
• How do you have your Final Cut playback options set? If you have your framerate set to Dynamic then Final Cut might be dropping frames to keep up with the graphic intensive scene.

I would suggest exporting it and making sure it’s not just a playback issue within Final Cut but based on the subject I think you have already tried that.

I think I’ve run into this problem before but with music tracks. I’ve fixed the issue by right-clicking on the affected audio clip in the timeline and relinking it. I think this should work for you as well. Should save you some time having to replace the clips.
