Steve Connor“Very, very nice, but where’s the new MacPro!”
Right? I’ve never owned or cut off a laptop so while the new MacBook Pro definitely looks hot, I’m much more interested in a new MacPro.

Agreed, I’ll put a request in.

[Ryan Patch] “when premiere asks you where those files are, and there are 5 or 6 different version of the file, there’s absolutely no way for you to know which version it wants.”
That’s pretty terrible. Premiere doesn’t retain the clips timecode or length or anything that can help you determine which file to relink to?

May 17, 2012 at 8:20 pm in reply to: How well will PPCS6 run on a 2008 MacPro / NVIDIA GeForce 8800Yeah, everything I’ve read pretty much says a new graphics card is very important. Right now we can definitely afford the CS6 upgrade but I can’t get my company to spring for some new $750 nVIDIA Quadro 4000s. If playback is anything but rock solid on my machine I can’t switch from FCP7, and it sounds like I’d probably run into the sluggish issues you had Shane.

I’d say 90% of the stuff I cut is DVCPRO HD but recently we’ve been getting more 5D H.264s. I always color correct and typically use transitions and simple animations for text/images on every project.

[Chris Borjis] If I was at a cross-roads between mac & pc I’d pick PC
since apple will likely be abandoning production of macpro
tower systems in the near future.[Tom Daigon] As a current Mac Pro owner, I would suggest getting a PC 😀
Is there anything dictating your decision other than pure speed? I personally hate Windows and would rather buy a slightly slower Mac because I like the OS. However, if CS6 is going to struggle on anything other than a sizzle core I might have to bite the bullett and and start looking at… *sigh* Windows machines. Right now I’m running a MacPro 2×2.8Ghz Quad with 16GB of ram and a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, so hopefully CS6 will run smoothly for the time being – I might just have to upgrade my video card.

This forum is a place of discussion for all NLEs as well as industry news in general. The fact that this forum still has FCPX in the name can throw people off a bit but the name remains the same because X started the discussion.

I’m very excited about it! From the demos it looks like Adobe made some huge headway with this release and I can’t wait to start cutting on it.

I’m leaning towards Premiere for my company for a few reasons:
• I’m interested in FCPX but since Premiere has been used on everything from short-form to features and everything in-between I feel it’s a safer bet for any work tossed at me at this point
• The demos of CS6 look like what I was hoping FCP8 would be
• I love AE and am really excited about Dynamic Link
• I work with a lot of freelance editors and have only found one that uses FCPX
• No matter how hard I try, I just can’t get excited for AVID (sad because I started on AVID) -
