Make the sign a 3D layer, move the pivot for the layer to the left side of the door where the hinges are, then position the sign back in the middle of the door, leaving the pivot off to the side. Now as the door opens and closes you should be able to use your X rotation channel to move the sign with the door, replete with perspective changes, without doing any painful manual tracking. That said, I don’t know if there is a way to compensate for various camera lenses in AFX, out of the box.

    Hope that helps.

That does help, David, thanks. That’s different than how I’m used to working with 3D f-curves, but it’s not the end of the world.

I really like the Frame Hold technique. I don’t even have to add any additional items to my bin. Super clean.

    I use PNG sequences.

If I have time on Monday, maybe I can do Camtasia capture of it and post it online.

Hi Eddie. Yes I can. This is a consistent problem in every Premiere project I work on.

The freeze technique works fine. I was just trying to use an asset I already had (a frame from my existing sequence) rather than create a new asset.

    What can I say, I’m a minimalist.

If, by chance, the clip that’s giving you beef is a TGA sequence, then I would say that is your problem. I’ve had nothing but headaches getting Premiere to render TGA sequences. Since the day I switched to using 32-bit PNG sequences, life has been much easier.

Hi David. Great question. We tried providing a client with an HD res animation once and it crushed our puny little render farm when we rendered the 3D frames; it took some ungodly amount of time to render it all. We don’t have the resources to invest in a better farm right now, so we aren’t offering HD. It’s really too bad, I’d love to get some experience working with some of the more high end stuff I hear about: 2K, 4K, floating point, etc. We just aren’t that kind of shop.
