The Z1 auto senses what format the tape is. There is no switch. Surely pulling the firewire plug could damage the firewire bus. So it is not recommended even though I can see your logic in trying to fool the machine.

Doesn’t seem to be any solution other than getting the tape standards converted.

Your Maths is correct. It is spot on!

However I still can’t understand how a 1440×1080 timeline with square pixels
stretches to a 1920×1080 frame with ‘square pixels’

Many thanks for problem solved it is just the principle now!

    But…

When I check my factory setting for HDV it gives me the following:-

    Frame size HD 1440×1080 (16:9)

    Pixel Aspect HD 1440×1080

HDV is anamorphic by nature so the pixels can’t be square.

    Sorry I am still confused.

March 23, 2006 at 10:57 am in reply to: quicktime presets for export with FCP

    I have this problem too!

You can select a defined preset in compressor but this requires a number of mouse clicks. Mouse clicks slow the editor down.

Why does the ‘Export Quicktime’ function not remember previous export characteristics?

This is so annoying when you have 67 still frames to export from the timeline. I intend to sue Apple for RSI! but then I do get paid by the hour.

    No solution?
