On your timeline it will show 1 additional “frame” but your layer will not be visible if you move 1 second forward in the timeline.

When you’re hitting Opt + ], you’re telling after effects this should be your last visible frame of this layer. If it didn’t add the extra frame in the timeline then your final frame wouldn’t be visible.

Match Frame will match back to the source of what is in your sequence. If you made you edits from a group it, it will match back to the group. Same thing if you made your edits with a master clip, it will match back to the masters.

If you deleted your MXF files and are matching back to your reference clips they will be offline. If you delete the database but leave the mxfs your computer will index your volumes and should relink offline mxfs.

If you just want your masters I would again AMA link them and relink your sequence to those AMA since it sounds like you deleted your MXF proxie files.

    Best of luck!

  • The “ARE YOU SERIOUS” text that replicates into the sky could be done with a simple text layer and adding a repeater onto it. Adjust the offset, scale, and other variables as you see fit. You can then warp this text with a distortion effect or using a displacement map and motion blur if using a CC Camera.

    Alright, I understand.

So the best way to go about relinking your clips will be to have your sequence with all the .new files that you transcoded (the proxies). You would then open a bin and AMA all your masters from your new drive that you moved them to. Select all the AMA Masters in your AMA bin, Select the sequence with the proxies and right click > relink. Under relink options choose to relink from selected media in all bins. This way you don’t have to relink through scanning drives.

If you have the “create new sequence” check box ticked you will have a new sequence with all your clips relinked to the masters.

    Hey Luke,

What is your goal with relinking? Are you trying to continue editing with your LB proxies that you originally transcoded or are you wanted to relink to the masters for an export?

Adding onto this, if you want to keep the same effects on the same picture layer but replace the picture you can do this by simply clicking on the layer in your timeline, hold alt/option on a Mac and drag your new picture/asset from the project window onto your selected layer in the timeline. This will replace it with the new file but keep all effects the same on that layer.

  • As stated previously, Avids relink tool is very hit or miss. You could always consolidate your AMA clips to the new file location before moving the source files to their new home which will keep the media in its native codec but will rewrap it as an OMF or MXF respectively.

This will also help with playback in some cases but you can only consolidate AMA clips if they’re natively supported.

Just adding another option for you incase it helps.

  • Simple solution! Learned something new today. Always just used the hotkeys for transforming. Cheers!

    Yes it sounds like it.

Once you sync the external audio to your master clips and group them, you just need to create the subgroups just like you did subclips (Loading the master group into the source monitor and creating subgroups from it). Luckily, you already have the timecode and duration of the subclips you want to make.

  • Both versions of AE are being tested on the same machine correct? If so, it more or less sounds like a AE2020 issue like you said. Have you tried breaking down your comps to shorter/smaller less load intensive comps to see if the RAM preview will work on them? I wonder if it’s only your heavy load comps or just all comps in general.

In the memory section of your preferences, do you have the majority of RAM designated for AE2020 and that you aren’t reducing cache size when the system is low on memory?
