Hi,
I am on the same boat over here…..It’s been 2 years since I bought my g5 2,7ghz tower and I need badly a mobile station. I will be switching to a new tower quad mac intel 2,66ghz (since octo core didn’t meet my price performance expectations), and I will be buying also a matrox mxo and cinema display 23”. On the other hand I still have serious doubts about investing in the existing models of macbook pro’s 17

hi everyone,
thanx for the input…well there are two main reasons why I’m switchin…the ability to have pci-e slot (i was stuck with pci-x) and the ability to feed the new mac pro with 4 X 750 gb of internal sata disks, which gives me enough fast and enough space storage for the time beeing for quite a reasonable price (specially when compared to raid fibre and scsi). Judging from your replies it seems that like now it is a good time as any, since 8 core is still miles away from local shops. And needless to say I need the machine as soon as possible.
Thanx everyone for the input

Hi Jeremy,
That’s what I thought that you had in mind KONA LHe but I wasn’t fully sure. After reading tons of realted post comparing aja and blackmagic, all roads for me lead to AJA kona LHe card. In case if you have any specific sound mixer in mind that would suit the job well please specify it. Otherwise thanks very much for the link you’ve provided and audio tip.
Best regards

Jeremy hi,
I’m not sure I was clear enough. I don’t want to buy Kona 2, I just want to buy Kona LHe. Is there any cheaper and more solution than the one you just have mentioned. It seems quite complicated and expensive too, since it implies buying an additionial KONA 2 just for the sake of capturing unbalanced sound from sony hdv cameras. I beleive there must be a way to solve my issue with KOna LHe only.

Hy everybody,
Self contained movie does the trick and conversion works like a charm. I am finally set to send my hdv pal movie, to the screening to new york’s film and video film festival. Thanks for the input.
Best regards to ya all

Steve hy,
First of all I did my homework and searched the post but still haven’t found the answers. Could you please tell me how did you export a timeline as a self contained movie. I have too finsihed timelines one beeing the hdv timeline and the other beeing the nested sequence in dvcpro50, both pal.

Graeme hy,
First of all thank you for your prompt reply. Since I really appreciate what you do, and the way you’re contributing to the video community there’s only one winning option for me and that’s the number 2. Based on the reviews that I’ve read the purchase of your product seems quite inevitable, therefor that’s the way I’m going. I’m gonna let you know the results, as soon as I finish with the rendering of my movie.
Best regards

Well
I guess the silence tells pretty much everything. Don’t expect the pci-c anytime soon!!!!!
Wish it could it be the other way round.

Chris,
First of all thank you for your extremely resourcefull answers, many things have been clarified to me with your last post.
I have only one question left concerning your last answer.
If you had the Decklink HD card you could use it to capture through the ME- the ME would convert any analog sources to SDI that would then go through the Decklink card to your hard drives. This is how people with the standard Multibridge work now. You could start working immediately instead of waiting for the PCI interface or buying a PCIe computer.
Would the same principe apply to hd-sdi sources?
Thanks a bunch

Steve,
Yes I know that Miranda and Convergent design both do what I need, but I was wondering if ME is capable of doing the same, this way I could have a stand alone converter and a video card all in one, and possibly save some money, and avoid the need of buying both.
