Hi man,
good tips and really good article…I’ve saved it on my desktop…however apple hardare test already some errors on my new macpro: error 4MOT/2/40000004:I0….I’ve searched the apple discussion forum…and it seems that I am not the only one experiencing these problems…however no one really knows what that error number means, not even specified apple technicians…more later…

Hi guys,
Precious advice you have given me, and my path of system/hardware recovery soon will begin. Light I beleive is at the end of a dark tunell, but naive we shall not be, because intel is inside the macpro. Will let you know how my adventure turned out, in the meantime thanks again…

Hi everyone,
your advices are extremely helpful conduit and then shake seems like the path to go…only pitty shake has been discontinued…what a shame…hopefully in the next relase they will mix it with motion and add shake’s nodal workflow into it…this way the investment in the learning curve will pay off…at least a little bit..

Hi Walter,
Thanks for the comment. The price for Boris Continuum and Shake is almost the same, which one do you think is a better investment…Shake is a mighty powerful application as far as I am informed but a steep learning curve…on the other hand Boris seems like a very friendly orineted program – or better say fcp plugin…if possible tell me your opinion…thanx a bunch

May 5, 2007 at 12:09 pm in reply to: New DVD! Getting Organized in Final Cut Pro by Shane RossShane hi,
I love reading your posts and I was eagerly expecting your DVD tutorial…I am a director/editor, two years ago I switched from py (premiere pro) to fcp and I am glad I did it…Not long ago I just finished editing my new, one hour documentary (www.honeymoonthemovie.net) about the sex industry in Japan soon to be distributed across USA, and now I am doing a feature length follow up on the same subject. The whole film was shot in hdv, I have captured over 100 hours of material, and I am also in between of making a switch from my g5 2,7ghz to macpro intel 2,66; 2tb hdd,2tbb fw800 (as a backup) and 4gb ram….Obviously in the process I realised how demanding good media management is and I look forward for your dvd. However I would like to know is there any talk about backing up the projects, in my new macpro setup I’ve ordered a lacie fw800 2tb disk just for that purpose…I went through the chapters but couldn’t tell if there’s any coverage on how apart from good management, how a good back should be done…

Hi everyone,
Thanks very much for the input, feel much more comfortable in making the switch.
Zak: You have a lot of files in a lot of places, but I’ll bet they’re organized. You don’t just have a “files I edit with folder” and throw everything in there. Just go through the directories on your drives and copy what you need. Think of it as an opportunity to do a little spring cleaning.
Exactly what I had in mind…clean and reorganise my data management workflow and logistics…
Ben: Just be aware that if you renamed items in your browser after you captured them, that relinking the media may not be straight-forward. Thankfully FCP6 renames original files if you rename the media, so this may avoid the problem for future projects
Good call man

gary “and with AJA hipping their new IoHD over the summer, I would think that holding off would be a good thing, then you get all of that and portability. Using a sata connection for the storage and FW 800 for capture- you know have the ability to travel with a full laptop based HD capture station and 17′ HD display in 2 boxes under 50Lb total.”
these are words of wisdom….sounds like the most reasonable to do…after all aja IO/HD with the upcoming macbook pro’s will make a dream team state of the art mobile editing suite….
you asking the wrong question, a better question is should I buy drives with fans or without
< with would be the correct answer>
so tell me
