Graeme and the rest of the guys hy,

I have just purchased the standard conversion package from graeme natress and I am experiencing some trouble along the way.

    1. I’ve watched instructional movies and read the pdf file on the site but neverthless I am experiencing some problems. My situation goes as follows.

    MY WORKFLOW

I am working on a g5 2,7ghz dual, 4gb ram and I am using final cut pro 5.0.3.

    1. The 1 hour movie was shot and edited in hdv formtat, using fx1pal and 25cineframe. No problem whatsoever.
    2. Using the edited timeline in hdv,,,,I then copy pasted and nested into a downconverted dvc pro 50 anamorphic format sequence (this is 720X576, sequence that kept the 16:9 frame just the way it should and I hink it has upper field first or at least so it says under item description)

Mind you the dvc pro 50 is a nested sequence not an independent clip and takes 116gb space on my disk. I made this one in order to be able to make dvd’s and it works great, as far as dvd quality goes.

    3. Now I followed pdf and video instructions and I have made an DV NTSC sequence (I have copy pasted the nested dvc pro 50 sequence into it) and when rendered a small portion of it first problems occured

3.1. The main problem is that the sound is out of sync — I mean completely out of sync
3.2. I rendered only a short portion of the nested sequence just to see where are the biggest problems.
3.3. It turned out that the picutre aspect ration is not as it should be. I left the optional box “anamorphic to letter” untached and the rendered sample of footage looks goofy, their faces are way too smashed up, too large in horizontal terms.
3.4 There seems to be a huge deterioration in picture quality. I have checked the box high quality down scaling.

WHAT ARE THE SOLUTIONS TO MY PROBLEMS.
    4. How to get the sound to play in sync.
4.1. Do I have to make an independent clip of my nested sequence in dvc pro50 pal?
4.2. Can I avoid making the independent sequence and using the already existing one?
4.3. What about picture ratio? How do I retain the original 16:9 format when going from dvc pro50 anamorphic to dv ntsc. Is it possible or do I have to make a compromise and sacrifice the original 16:9 to the letter format.

    Best regards to ya all

I’m no expert, but I don’t think you can use nested sequences with it.

I normally export my timeline as a self-contained movie, drop that into the timeline apply the converter filter to it and then use the self contained movie to drop into the image well in the filter settings. I’ve converted a number of projects this way with excellent results.

    Steve hy,

First of all I did my homework and searched the post but still haven’t found the answers. Could you please tell me how did you export a timeline as a self contained movie. I have too finsihed timelines one beeing the hdv timeline and the other beeing the nested sequence in dvcpro50, both pal.

    Best regards

Yes, using nests got broken in in FCP5. In previous versions you could make it work. Drazen has emailed me, so we’ll figure it out!

    Hy everybody,

Self contained movie does the trick and conversion works like a charm. I am finally set to send my hdv pal movie, to the screening to new york’s film and video film festival. Thanks for the input.

    Best regards to ya all

Ahh, this must be why I lost sync when following your instructions for v.1.1 in FCP 5?
