    Hey Brian,

If you’re exporting as DV, that may be why things look “crappy”. Graphics and text tend to look chunky because DV is so compressed.

As for your system’s performance: there is no specific “RT” mode in Motion. Motion’s performance scales to your system’s capabilities, trying to maintain interactivity as much as possible. What kind of graphics card do you have? The GPU is the main source of Motion’s power.

  • Hey Lars,

From what little I understand, one of the crashes in your log shows that it died when you were mousing into the toolbar. When, exactly, is Motion crashing? Precislely: what are you doing at the moment of crash? Just mousing into the toolbar shouldn’t cause a crash (of course), and the crash logs don’t look like the ones people have posted for bad installs/frameworks, so I’m at something of a loss.

    Heya Bill,

Since 10.4.3 came out, anyone who has the BlackMagic DeckLink desktop feature enabled crashes when applying most filters. I haven’t played with the Kona stuff in a while, but I noticed from their brochure (on the new cards) that they also seem to offer a desktop feature (gives a broadcast preview desktop).

I shudder at the thought that this might be a global trend/problem, but do you, by any chance, have the desktop feature enabled for your Kona? If so, try disabling it and then see if Motion still bites the dust.

Please let us know, as this would be most informative 🙂

    Hey Ben,

The Exponential Scale thing has been around since at least version 3 (in the Motion Math tools), but it’s part of the Pro Bundle only, FYI. Good luck!

    Hey Ben,

The term you’re looking for is “exponential zoom” or “exponential scale”. AE has a keyframe assistant that does this, but I don’t think Motion has a way of automatically doing it. Real zooms, using a lens, have a non-linear scaling curve: that’s what you’re trying to do.

  • Hey Lars,

Trying opening the Console (found in /Applications/Utilities) and post what it says when Motion crashes. Also, post the crashed thread from the crash reporter (appears when Motion dies).

This information should give you a hint as to what’s wrong on your system.

Now, now, Vincent, throw him a bit more of a clue 🙂

Vincent means to use one of the “Kaleidoscope” category of filters, of which there are a few in Motion.

    Heya,

If you’re looking to interpolate between two different vector files (like .ai files), Motion does not offer that functionality.

    Heya,

It sounds like you’re trying to key a lossy format like DV. There are a few keying tools out there that are designed to compensate for this, though the quality will always be lesser than using an uncompressed format. The newer versions of the Ultimatte AE plugins work okay, but dvGarage has made a Motion-native (meaning fast, often realtime) version of their dvMatte keyer. You can get a demo version at https://www.dvgarage.com/prod/prod.php?prod=dvmatteb&sub=samples

    Good luck!

    Hey Deyson,

I remember some threads discussing something similar on the Apple board. People had used a utility to change/remove some of the default system fonts, like Helvetica, and it caused crashes in the text tool.
