You could try adding the lips to the puppet first, then make a compound clip of the two, and finally put the compound on the transform motion path, if I’m understanding correctly.

Like Eric, I’m still using my older GoPros because they still work.

Sometimes FCP will re-wrap footage when using the Import function, but you should never lose quality. I will say that when I use my GoPros, I transcode those files to ProRes prior to import using EditReady, simply because the native GoPro MP4 footage causes playback issues in the timeline. EditReady will do several things – it pulls in metadata from sidecar files (if present), it will stitch together segmented clips, and is pretty flexible. And fast.

When importing anything, I choose Leave in Place, or I drag & drop from Finder into keyword groups. This allows me to more accurately catalog my storage media, and find assets that I might need for future projects.

Any filters or effects on the video or audio? Some plugins (even a few of the built-in ones) carry a heavy processing penalty and could cause something like this. If so, you could try to disable those on the timeline clips to see if playback improves.

  • Glad to hear it, Scott. Thanks for the update!

  • That’s definitely interesting…

Is the other timeline (the one you can’t use) the same edit, just with different dimensions? If so, you can duplicate that project in the browser, then change its dimensions in the inspector. With the project highlighted, you should see a blue ‘Modify’ button in the Info pane of the inspector and you can change it in there. You won’t be able to change frame rate because there’s media in the timeline, but you can do whatever you want with the dimensions.

EDIT – Make sure your viewer’s ‘View’ setting is set to “Optimized/Original” under Media Playback…

  • Well, that’s a start… still seems small for the dimensions and duration. The only scenario where this would make sense is if you had a series of static images, like a slideshow, with very little action or animation. Gonna need to stew on this one.

  • There are some important fixes in that Ventura 13.2.1 update, so unless you’ve got a reason not to, I’d update that first.

You can check your Pro Video Formats version by opening up System Information app (Utilities), and in the left column under the Software section you’ll see an ‘Installations’ item – hit that and you should be able to find it alphabetically. It should have shown up toward the end of October last year.

  • That all looks perfectly cromulent. Only difference between your settings and mine are that I have ‘Save Only’ as the action.

Did you say what version of macOS and FCP you’re running? I’m current, fwiw – 13.2.1 / 10.6.5. Might be worth looking to see if you have the latest Pro Video Formats installed too (2.2.4)

  • Man, I’ve been trying to reply to your previous post all day… hope this one goes through.

I ended up with a 99.7GB video file. Very odd that yours won’t output HQ. Can you post a screenshot of your Settings tab in the Export dialog?

  • Here’s something. There are two fields for the video stream that indicate you didn’t actually output HQ, but instead got standard 422:

Format profile – should read 422 HQ

Codec ID – should be ‘apch’
