Object Tracking Motion Path in FCPX

March 7, 2023 at 12:03 amI want to attach talking lips to a puppet on a transform motion path as it moves across the screen. The FCPX tracker works well if the puppet is not on a motion path. I can get FCPX to track the puppet on a motion path but when I try to add add the video of the the talking lips as a connected clip and connect it to the object track the composite fails. Is it possible to get this to work with FCPX tracker or do I need a plugin?

March 7, 2023 at 2:04 amHey Gary,
Have you looked at Drive X from CoreMelt which uses Mocha for tracking?
When I got my FCPX system the first thing I invested in was the CoreMelt Everything bundle.
DriveX sounds like the one you need, but do check out the other “trackers” in that bundle:

March 7, 2023 at 10:20 pmYou could try adding the lips to the puppet first, then make a compound clip of the two, and finally put the compound on the transform motion path, if I’m understanding correctly.

March 9, 2023 at 1:06 pmDriveX is made to track things like particle emitters (I beta test for them). TrackX is what you’d want to try out.

March 9, 2023 at 5:58 pmProbably. The original post is a bit ambiguous though – the way I read it initially, sounded like he was the one moving the puppet around via motion path, and then trying to add lips. If the puppet doesn’t move otherwise, it’d make sense to comp the stationary puppet with the lips, and then drive the comp.
