the coded used likely isn’t installed on your system in a package that Vegas supports.
If it’s an MJPEG codec, I believe you can download the demo of Vegas Pro8 and it will allow you to decode, or you can find a few free mjpeg codecs on the web.

I don’t say interlacing is a good idea today.

This must be qualified with application-specific information. You can’t broadcast 60p 1080. Ain’t gonna happen for a while. But it sure looks great on a Blu-ray disc.
For broadcast, interlacing is still a good idea for many reasons, but even if there were no such animal as an interlaced display, PsF (which uses interlacing techology) still benefits from interlacing. The difference is that you can’t see the interlacing due to how it’s implemented. If you’re in PAL land, you already know this, yeah?

Blu-print has been available for nearly 2 years now.
As far as why BD isn’t in DVD Architect…you’d have to ask Sony. Those outside of Sony who can claim to know the answer, likely are just guessing.
There hasn’t been a real need for it up until recently; not only was there the spectre of changing specifications (finally settled recently) but also the HD DVD battle, and limited hardware. That all has recently changed.
I’m assuming you were around for either the initial DVD or initial launches of CD? Took years til we had standard authoring tools.

Interlace was critical in the early days of television due to bandwidth, but you already knew that.
Interlace is critical in today’s broadcasts due to bandwidth, but we’re not using it as PsF broadcast footage, which is the right way to use what we’ve got now, IMO. It sure is a PITA tho.

Celluloid is free on its own with a few film looks.
You can purchase ReelPaks that will load into Celluloid or Ultimate S.
If you have Celluloid, the filmlooks will also show up in Ultimate S 2/3.
Hopefully that clarifies. Yes, the website isn’t as clear as it should be. We’re working on remedying that now, as we discontinue old products and pages.
Celluloid originally wasn’t free, and therefore some of the old pages are still lying around our site.

Fix as I’ve listed below:

Video tab:
Choose the Frame Size of DV/NTSC
Frame rate: 29.970 (NTSC)
Field order: Non (progressive scan)
Pixel aspect ratio: 0.909
Video format: DV
Compressed depth: 24 bpp color
Quality: 100%

that should fix you up.

Chances are that you’re rendering to Quicktime uncompressed, based on your earlier explanation. the problem isn’t your system, nor Vegas, it’s pilot error.
You need to use the Custom Tab in the Quicktime options to create a Quicktime DV file.

But when I render out a QuickTime file, it is very slow and creates an extra large file that has jumpy playback.

That would be a problem related to the type of file you’re rendering TO, not the type of file from which you’re rendering/source material.
If your source material isn’t jerky/jumpy, neither should the render be.

Render to the MP4/iPod template in Vegas for best generic results for loading up to YouTube.

I don’t believe it does. However, you can download several free MJPEG codecs that Vegas Platinum will use to decode.
Curious…I wonder if installing the demo of Vegas Pro will allow you to access the decoder? I’d imagine it would.
