Dan, a little off subject. I notice you have 10GB of Ram on your 8 core Mac Pro. How is that configured? I am curious because I too have a simarily configured computer, and I am wondering if I have the Ram placed wrong on the sleds. Thanks

November 14, 2010 at 4:39 am in reply to: need to make Blu-ray for big screen screening ASAPI recently showed my indie film (94 min) through a 18K lumen Christie Projector. Made a BR disc and ran it through a Walmart bought Sony BD player, connected through a component cable. (RCA to BNC converters are needed) I then started a 2009 MBP (esata express 34 card Sonnet F2 Raid array) playing a ProRes FCP movie, through the mini DVI output as a backup, connected to the DVI input of the projector. I started playback on the laptop about 5 seconds after the BluRay. Neither playback device hiccuped durning the 3 showings of the movie.

The ability to edit H.264 in an iphone, will hopefully translate to really useful features in the FCS 4. Adobe has rewritten their software from the ground up, Avid is making big strides, but I firmly believe that Steve Jobs would not flat out lie about the next release of FCS being “Awesome”. Yes, there is a concern it might be dumbed down to a consumer platform, but if it lives up to the Apple reputation for really good engineering, both in the software and hardware realms, it will be worth the wait.

Is there an Editing application out there that actually uses all available cores? Just curious.

If you were to go the OWC route, and have a ESATA port put in your Imac then you would also have the FW 800 port available to run a AJA IO HD if you had the desire for a broadcast monitor. However they run more than the IMac would in price. You might could use your old MacPro as a footage server, if it was properly configured, and if the current editions of the IMac’s ethernet port can handle jumbo frames. Earlier versions of the IMac could not, but that might have changed.

8TB Raid, Raid 50 effective capacity 5.5TB, 1.92TB available.
I should be good there.

Transfered footage back to the Raid and it works fine. So I am assuming “file corruption” of some sort.
The problem appears to be solved.

I did a bad Creative Cow thing….. I searched the web. (for the last couple of months) posted my post. Then searched the Cow.
BEFORE MAKING A POST-SEARCH THE COW FIRST!…… I knew this, but sinned anyway. Found the Cache-A sight. That looks like what I need.
Thanks for your help.
