Tape Backup LTO or DLT?
Posted by Don Walker on September 30, 2010 at 4:13 pmEvery hard drive attached to my computer is over 90% full! I would like to avoid buying more hard drives.
Can anybody recommend a good tape based solution for a 1 or 2 editing station operation. Are there any solutions that don’t require SCSI cards?
I have done some research, but still kind of confused.

September 30, 2010 at 5:32 pmThanks Jeremy.
I did a bad Creative Cow thing….. I searched the web. (for the last couple of months) posted my post. Then searched the Cow.
BEFORE MAKING A POST-SEARCH THE COW FIRST!…… I knew this, but sinned anyway. Found the Cache-A sight. That looks like what I need.
Thanks for your help.

September 30, 2010 at 11:24 pmMy bet is that it’s not ethernet enabled, does not have a hard drive in it for fast transfers, does not accept p2 or other media as direct attach archive, does not have a built in searchable database like the Cache-A, does require 3rd party archive software and does require you to have a computer with am available PCIe slot?
There’s a reason the Cache-A is more money, it’s geared toward video professionals and archiving.

October 1, 2010 at 12:00 amalways love (and it seems to be getting the norm) when the post include ‘because it’s made for professionals’ implying whatever I suggested was amateurish stuff.
I know all the bits about the Cache-A system but if I can save about $6000 (last time I checked, might have changed) and still get professional archiving of my media/data I sure pay attention.
But hey I’m just an amateur . . .

October 1, 2010 at 12:27 amWhoa, whoa. Did I call you an amateur? Was any of my post even directed to you personally? Sorry if you took it that way.
What I’m saying is, the cache-a system is setup for people. Like us.
I don’t have the ProCache, I have the Prime Cache. The whole thing is about 6 grand so unless the HP is free or close to it saving 6 grand seems extreme. It’s self contained and plug and play. Just weighing the options is all. The Cache-A systems are super easy to use and ready for video. That’s all.
