I just did a test where I exported the XML on the Project that had taken me two hours to restore like it was on the project that I edited at home. Then I imported it. No emailing or zip’ing involved. I’m afraid the project imported just like the one I had emailed to myself earlier from home; all Position keyframes that had been set to Linear reverted to Smooth. Also, that wasn’t the only problem as I discovered while fixing the original,emailed XML; all scale keyframes were gone as well and all keyframes in a home-grown effect were gone. The home-grown effect was there on the clip (I had identical copies of my effect both at work and at home) but its keyframes had been cleared by the XML conversion. That’s what I’ve discovered so far. I suspect there’s more to find.

I’m running 10.1 on both machines of course. Home is a mid 2012 Thunderbolt MacBook Pro and work is a 2009 Mac Pro. Of course, Mavericks is on both because its required to run the 10.1 update.

Exporting here at work and then importing the XML on the same machine yet the same problems were created in the process eliminates the platform differences question and it eliminates the question of whether my home-grown effect was different at home.

There’s an Apple Support document, talking about 4k, that lists the latest MacBook Pro’s as being capable of being using by 10.1 to output the timeline through the HDMI port. I’m trying to confirm from those running 10.1 on a Late 2013 MacBook Pro if indeed that’s the case for not only 4k but for HD as well. Just making sure before I spend the money for that purpose.

Andy… Yes. I sometimes need the reflection as if a floor is there but without a floor object to block the background. There’s the old technique as I describe in my OP but I thought I had heard somewhere along the way that you could achieve that reflection in the newest Motion without using a floor object and without the complexity hoops of the original technique.

It must have been a hallucination! 🙂

I would think it would work over the finished multi cam edit, though I don’t have X open to test that. That is, unless you need different grades on different cuts which, by the wording of your request, you don’t.

You just don’t want to put an Adjustment Layer above any titles lest you affect those as well. Unless its desired.

Thinking further about the Adjustment Layer (beyond my previous post) I think you can Match the color of the clip you like and apply it to the Adjustment Layer (it says here.. I don’t have X open before me).

Don’t forget about using an adjustment layer.

To create an Adjustment layer start a new Text project in Motion. Delete the text layer leaving only the Effects Source.

Save it as ‘Adjustment Layer’.

It’ll show up in the Text tab in Final Cut Pro X.

Apply it above everything for the whole length of the project (or whatever length you need) and color correct the adjustment layer. If you’ve segmented your Adjustment Layer, trying highlighting the one that’s done to your satisfaction and copy it. Then highlight the other(s) and press Option-Command-V to paste the correction.

OK. Follow me on this…

Two clips side-by-side. A connected clip is attached to the second (right) clip. We’re talking regular clips here. Not Multicam clips although it might work on a MC clip if you’ve bladed it to eliminate dead space.

You want the first clip (on the left) to extend and replace the second clip but not disturb the connected clip attached to it.

Select the second clip and DELETE it using the DELETE key that is next to the HOME and END buttons. NOT the backspace key sometimes called the DELETE key in the upper right of the main group of keys.

That turns the second clip into a GAP clip. NOW, the TRIM mode will extend the first clip over the GAP clip all the way to the end. If you had not turned the second clip into a GAP clip, then the trim mode will fail to go all the way through the second clip only coming within one frame of the end of the second clip thus leaving you with a rogue single frame of the original second clip.

In short, turn the second clip into a GAP clip before trimming the first clip to entirely replace the second clip without disturbing any connected clips.

If you have a full-size keyboard as I do, I set the slash and the asterisk (multiply symbol) on the numeric keypad to Go To Range Start and Go To Range End, which is the same as Go to IN and Go To OUT. Normally, the default for those keys are IN and OUT which duplicates the function of the I and O keys so the duplication is not needed. For me anyway.

Here’s something to try..

I just bought Mark Spencer’s excellent Moving Text in Motion tutorials and in the last lesson he rotates text around a planet.

First he puts the text on a path (a circle) then rotates the text OBJECT -90 degrees in the X rotation of the properties tab.

Then go to the TEXT tab > Format > Advanced Formatting and you’ll find another X rotation. Put it at 90 degrees.

Good so far but the text is backward reading.

Go to the Text tab > Layout tab > Path Options and check “Inside Path”. The text now reads correctly.

While that doesn’t answer your problem directly I pass this along because you might be able to duplicate the text, rotate the duplicate text object, then rotate the text in the Advanced Formatting pane, and then, if necessary, check Inside Path.
