Vince,
Thank you. That worked. I’ve left-clicked several times and it is opening without a warning. I’ll remember that process when dealing with similar glitches.
Best,

Tim,
I am aware CS4 hasn’t changed. I was simply asking if anyone had a similar glitch with VISTA and knew the fix or could identify the cause of the anomaly. I enjoy your comments and observations on this forum.
Cheers,

Vince,
Thank you. That opened the program without a warning. I guess I’ll have to right-click instead of left-click on my laptop and desk-top. Any speculation regarding why it won’t register in a conventional manner and just behave?
Thanks Vince,

Don,
The footage was HD from a Sony Z-1U. No sophisticated graphics or animation. The Vegas 8 crashed two times in the middle of the rendering. So I just cut the project in half and put two parts on the DVD (it was a basic beauty pageant). Worst problem: when Vegas rendered to Mpeg2, the video looked great. But after DVD Architect rendered the 90 min file on DVD, the compression was so intense that the video looked like a bad VHS copy and the red bar said it was using all 4.7G. Are there settings that can change the compression rate or increase the quality? How is it that 2 hour feature films look great on standard DVDs, but this 90 minute file was so compressed?

Kudos!!!!!!! That worked! At highest resolution, I saw it hiding below everything. My project is back on track. Thank you Mike.

Thanks. I tried it. Closed all tabs and still couldn’t see it. I also cannot open the video EFX menu by left-clicking the icon on the event (the toolbar becomes lighter colored, indicating it is responding to the command). I have to right click. Once I select from the plug-in menu, my selection appears to be opening, then hiding behind everything.
Thank you,
Don

May 1, 2009 at 10:29 pm in reply to: Can I save Vegas projects as AVI rather than MPEG?Thank you, Terry. As it happens, I’ve been dubbing HD tapes as well as MiniDVCam from my PD150 that was also used on this project. I wasn’t aware that the Vegas HD capture application distinguished between the two.
One more thing: you reiterated that MPEG is highly compressed, then said the computer saves the original file as an MPEG. That means the final video has been through two MPEG compressions. Is there a way to go into VEGAS and lower the level of compression applied to files being captured as well as files being rendered? I’m originally an audio guy by profession, so I know the dangers of too much compression or compressing the same material twice.
Many thanks,

Hello,
I can’t seem to find “Production Assistant” (refered to above) except for a video scheduling software for business. What is Production Assistant?
Big Thanks,
Don

Thank you. Before I order Ultimate S, please clarify the 64-bit question: I have Vista with 4G Memory and 2.6mhz speed running Vegas Pro 8.0. Will I run into the 64-bit problem?
Thanks,
Hutch

April 27, 2009 at 7:43 pm in reply to: Can I save Vegas projects as AVI rather than MPEG?Thanks for the answer. I am dowloading video from a Sony Z1U HD camcorder. Where (in my computer) can I reset the default format for saving the video, since I am inputting HD? And is AVI the best available format for making the “master” copy at the point of download?
Incidentally, when I activate “Capture Video” and get the choice of DV or HD, when I choose HD, it opens the capture app and usually says “Device not available”. Drives me nuts. But when I close the app, reopen it and choose “DV”, it is ready to capture! Can I use the “DV” capture app and still download high quality HD since that app recognizes the Z1U?
Thank you,
Don
