I just downloaded a trial version of Vegas Pro 9 (before upgrading from the Vegas 7 and 8 I have) and Vegas 9 won’t open (new HP Pavillion laptop/4G memory/VISTA/Quad-Core).
Vegas starts to open, then closes and “has encountered a problem” (according to the lovely VISTA prompt). Was Vegas 9 only compatible with Windows 7? I’ve run into this problem with other products and I’ve already turned off user profiles, and I’m confident this is a VISTA issue. Where do I go from here? Stick with Vegas 8 for VISTA? I’ve installed Windows 7 on my desktop. Will Vegas 9 run on Windows 7 without protracted negotiations 🙂 ?

    Thanks,

    Don

I will re-render the mpeg4 and see if it looks better (it was shimmery and the audio sounded heavily compressed–like early internet radio). By the way, I have Vegas 7 and 8. Is Vegas 8 compatible with Windows 7?

    Thank you,

    Don

Yes. I was able to do it. But that’s as far as I went. I wasn’t sure if (a) the metadata is attached to the “copy”, so I can save the copy as a file and re-import the improved file to the timeline in a way that it will snap (sync) to the video file and (b) does Vegas have a procedure for removing echo (or, at least, reducing it)?
I’ve read about making a copy, putting it on another track in reverse phase and playing with the settings.

    Thanks Terry

Thanks John. By the way, I installed VEGAS Seven on a laptop as a backup, but now when I try to open it, it closes immediately with no explanation from VISTA. I’m on a quad-core HP Pavillion with 4g memory. Ideas?

    Thanks,

Thanks Jesse. The computer is a 64-bit Quad-core with 4mb memory. I assumed since I ordered the software a month ago that it had the appropriate updated includes. Maybe not. I will try the one you suggested. I wanted Adobe 3 because of the music loops, but I might have to go back to Version 1 just to get any use at all. Do you hear of many users “upgrading” to Windows XP? A lot of people in my industry (broadcasters who need unflinching reliability) are going back to XP, or downloading software that allows you to run both systems and choose at boot-up.

    Thanks,

    Don

    Hey Jesse,

When you say “Edit/Hardware/Setup”, what program are you in when you select “Edit”? I can’t even get into Audition because I get the error message as the program is refusing to open.
As for the DEP issue, it appears to be resolved (I’m holding my breath until the program fully opens). An Adobe tech person suggested I (a)disable Norton 360 (b) disable “User Account Contols” (c) reboot and (d) reinstall Audition.
It worked; no more DEP error message. (Note: the tech who built my desktop PC also recommended I dump Norton 360 and go back to the basic version, and we did that on my desktop editor. 360 invents too many conflicts) and most editors disable any security software or create a separate identity w/o internet and security software anyway.
To anwer your other question, the laptop is an HP Pavillion with quad-core and 4G memory. It’s a back-up.

    Thank you,

    Don

August 21, 2009 at 12:02 am in reply to: Audition3 Vista “Data Execution Prevention” Issue

    Jesse,

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try that tomorrow after I do a 6-10am radio show, then direct a two-camera taping of a major Radio Station/Budweiser party for 400 guests tomorrow night. BTW, this (relatively new) version of VISTA also had problems authenticating Premiere Pro CS4. So I am aware it is the O/S and NOT Adobe. The laptop is Quad-core with 4g memory, so hardware is not an issue.

    Best,

  • I right-clicked, tried to run as Administrator and it’s still no-go. Then uninstalled and reinstalled, and Vista is still closing it and giving me the “Data execution Protection” reason (even though I went into Vista after the first install and selected Adobe Audition as a program to exempt from Data Execution analysis).

I’ve used Adobe Audition in many forms (going back to Cool Edit) at work (broadcasting)for over a decade. Hopefully I can enjoy this new version in my video editing suite at some point.

    Thank you,

    Don

They are both playing rather nicely now.
