Although I’m still waiting for the two Tiffen T1 filters I ordered I can report from others that leaving the T1 on all the time is not recommended. Users are reporting a myriad of problems depending on what your subject matter is and what your lighting conditions are.
Some of the issues are:
- green caste to some of the colours in the picture
- light loss is around half a stop
- some users are reporting a general “muddy” look to the picture
- If you get lens flare there’s a good chance it will have green in it
To summarize, the T1 affects other colours than black differently depending on light source. The recommendation seems to be leave the filter off unless you have a significant amount of dark clothing in your shot, and then only if the lighting causes the clothing to turn dark red or brown.

Just two, Jim. So in order to solve your dilemma and record 4 channels you’d have to use a mixer to capture your 4 channels, mix them down to two and then into the EX3. Better yet, use the camera for two channels and record two more with a rented audio recorder, then you’ll have 4 discreet channels for your client.

Believe it or not the EX1R has a better viewfinder than the one on the original EX. The EX1R has the same one that the Sony Z5 and Z7 use.

I think the issue might have been answered in the Convergent Design forum. If the Nano hasn’t been set up to record in Psf mode but is fact is recording straight 23.98 the result will look similar to what the poster has described.

Yep, all I”m sayin’ is that there’s more of a chance to repair aluminum in the field than carbon fibre.

Yes, though not through personal experience, nor do I want to do a test on my Miller carbon legs. The owner of the broadcast supply house I deal with has had rental carbon legs break. He didn’t mention how much force was required but I suspect it was considerable. He was the person who talked me out of carbon legs on my most recent tripod purchase.
My thought is that you want the most trouble free gear when you’re a long way from civilization. I’m just sayin’.

Something that was pointed out to me not that long ago is that carbon fibre legs are indeed lighter and stronger than aluminum but if you bend a leg, well, it doesn’t bend but shatters instead and can’t be repaired. Aluminum, on the other hand: if you bend a leg you can bend it back.
Something to consider if you’re far away from a broadcast repair facility.
