Keep in mind that the latest firmware upgrades will cause your media to lose one minute of recording time for every 8 Gbytes of card. My SxS Pro 32G cards went from 116 min. to 112.

The directory of the card was rebuilt by the camera. This task does not affect the actual video files.

There are many things that affect the card that may prompt the ‘restore’ message. One such issue is that when you empty the card using the computer and put it back in the camera sometimes the restore message will come up. But not all the time.

Just to add to Ron’s advice: don’t forget that you can create custom files names in-camera so that they will differ from your Go-Pro, which I don’t think you can rename beforehand . I usually pick something that references the client I’m shooting for.

My original EX1 did the same thing a couple of times but rebooting the camera took care of it. My present EX3 and EX1R don’t have the issue (so far). I never investigated because the few times it happened wasn’t a big deal for me.
Is your EX3 doing this on a regular basis?

XDCAM Transfer should have error checking but it doesn’t. Sony’s Clip Browser does but it’s not on by default. Go to: Preferences>Edit>Perform CRC check after copy. Although I’m not aware of anything in particular I’m sure that there are programs out there whose sole purpose is to perform error correction so that things that are copied are done so error-free.
So the workflow would be to copy your BPAV folders using Clip Browser (with CRC on) to the backup media you use for storing all your BPAV folders. Then use XDCAM Transfer to re-wrap what you need for editing from MP4 to .MOV.

I’m not sure. My original EX1 did that and I know I didn’t hit “RESET ALL” in the menu to make it happen. Early firmware glitch perhaps? Maybe it’s time to send your camera in for the upgrade as long as you don’t mind losing 2 minutes of recording time on a 16G card.

The lens is attached to the inside of the camera body, meaning you have to disassemble the entire camera starting at the back. It takes a Sony technician a good two hours of work just to get to the parts that hold the lens on. Don’t try this at home.

Phone your nearest authorized Sony repair centre and ask them what your options are. Only a technician will be able to advise you on the best (and least expensive) ways to get rid of condensation inside the lens. Short of telling you to point a hair dryer at your camera there isn’t much else I can offer.

As I eluded to in my first post, you must first decide what format you want to use for your ‘go-between’ hard drive, in other words the one you’re using to transfer media between platforms. Once you’ve figured that out you either need mac software (for your Mac) that can read and write to a NTFS formatted drive OR you need PC software (for your PC) that will read and write to a Mac formatted hard drive.
The latest versions of Mac OS X will read an NTFS formatted drive with no third party software needed but cannot write to it. The 2 above described options are generally accepted as the most reliable methods of transferring media between platforms.

Mac and PC use different hard drive formatting. If you get a program such as Paragon software’s ‘NTFS For Mac’ you’ll be able to connect a PC formatted drive to your Mac and transfer the BPAV folders from the XDCAM EX footage over. Then those folders will be importable by any Windows-based NLE.
