……and I thought my 2.7 G5 was fast. Used to take almost 13 hrs. to encode a 2 hr. DVD on my G4 dual 800 and now it takes about 4 hrs. (or less) on my G5. Wondering now how long the same encode will take in about a year or so from now on the latest desktop MacTel machine. 15 minutes? 🙂

– Don[dpetto] “What’s the difference between silver printable & white printable?”
Not much, other than the silver surface will show through most pictures printed on them, where as the white printable surface will not show through.
[dpetto] “can labels really be a big problem?”
The short answer is yes.
Taiyo Yuden make white hub printable DVD-Rs. I use them all the time.

Go to the Canon web site and do a search for the MA-300. It mounts to the GL2’s advanced accessory shoe for recording with 2 XLR microphones. This adapter includes a shotgun mic bracket and a shoe mount on the top of the adpater for your on-camera light. I have one and it works great.

Make sure your GL2 is in Play (VCR) mode and not Camera mode. Then open the door on the handle where the tape transport controls are located. Press the Record-Pause button and then press the Play button. Whatever you send down the firewire cable or the RCA inputs will now be recorded to tape.

Michael,
Go to the link below and read about Flip4Mac. You can use it within FCP, Quicktime, Compressor 2 etc. or it can be used as a stand-alone app.

You can use any inexpensive MiniDV camcorder to capture your footage because you’re simply using it as a tape deck and not to record anything. Once you’ve recorded footage with your aquisition camera you can transfer with the cheap one with no quality loss. For a test just borrow someone’s MiniDV palmcorder, hook it up to your computer via firewire and you’ll see what I mean.

You can also do it in Quicktime Player. With your .m2v file open choose export from the file menu>Movie to Quicktime Movie. Then choose the codec you want i.e. DV/DVCPRO NTSC. etc.
