Not true. The HQ 1080i/p 35 VBR settings record a full 1920×1080 right to the card. The SQ setting is there to provide a seamless workflow with HDV cameras and this setting is at 1440×1080 25 CBR recording.
If you want the SDI port to stream a 1920×1080 signal you must be in the HQ mode. The colour space of 4:2:0 will be recorded to the card but the SDI port will be streaming a 4:2:2 signal with imbedded audio and time code.

I did a little research, trying to find out if this company is for real, and also because the lake scenery at the end of the video looked very familiar. I believe the lake is Okanagan Lake which is situated in the British Columbia, Canada interior and about 160 miles away (by aircraft) from myself here on the BC coast. The animated creature that appears out of the lake at the end of the so-called “video” is called “Ogopogo” and sort of similar in legend to the Loch Ness Monster. The creature is thought to live in Lake Okanagan. My late father actually wrote a published story about Ogopogo many years ago. I grew up living by this lake.
Anyway, the two phone numbers in the video are not a published listing, as far as the local telephone company is saying, although the 250 area code is indeed for parts of British Columbia. Fred and Sharon may or may not be legit but they do live somewhere in the Okanagan Valley.
On behalf of all Canadians I sincerely apologize for any discomfort or nightmares this “video” may have caused the rest of the world.

I can’t remember and I’m not at my edit suite at the moment. Just start pulling down menus. Maybe the “View” menu?
Another reason the same video will play in both the viewer and canvas windows at the same time is if you’ve used the “collapse muliticlip” command by mistake, or that your multiclip track has been disabled or muted. You can expand the multiclip track again if it has become collapsed.

Sounds like you have everything set correctly. Do you have “Show Multiclip Angles” checked? If that’s not it then quit FCP, trash the program’s preference files then restart FCP and see if that’s solved it.

Are you looking at the playback after rendering the effect or just using RT playback?

Fixing what? Do you mean the video is playing full size in the viewer now and it won’t play back properly? You can’t see the full video frame in the viewer? If that’s the case then choose “Fit To Window” in the drop down menu in the Viewer or Canvas windows.

Well I haven’t seen anything from AVID yet as far as supporting the EX codecs. Maybe they’re trying to out-wait each other.
BTW, there’s nothing I can see in the Mac version of the Sony Transfer Tool that allows an .avi export. What about buying a cheap Windows laptop (with Express 34 slot) and installing the Sony Transfer Tool on that for .avi export. If you’re doing a lot of work with Windows clients the laptop would probably pay for itself in like 2 jobs.

If your MacBook is the only Mac you own then you’re hooped until you get it back. But if you have another Mac you can always drag the BPAV folders to a connected hard drive then clear off your cards for more shooting.

If you want the final output to be widescreen then use the DV NTSC Anamorphic preset. Drop your HDV clips into the sequence, then drop the GL2 footage in. Since the GL2 stuff is not widescreen it will display as pillarboxed. You’ll need to expand the GL2 clip until it fills the widescreen frame. You’ll lose some resolution doing this but there’s nothing you can do about it. If the GL2 footage was shot without widescreen consideration you might have to slide the footage up and down until you get your subject matter properly positioned in the widescreen space.

Go with the A1 since it’s HD and you’d be future proofing your projects. For myself, I can’t see buying another standard def camera at this stage of the game unless you’re delivering only for the web.
