Sir John
I have now tried everything except Final Cut Pro X. I have an old MAC pro with Final Cut 7 suite. When Apple threw everyone under the bus I said I would not upgrade. Then Adobe went for the strangle hold via the subscription black hole. I stopped at CS 6 Production Premium Suite.
I even have Edius Pro 8 Work Group, it is very awkward but robust.
Vegas is making me nervous – I have Catalyst Production Suite – for me it is practically useless, but I thought it might be Vegas future?
So, I know you know more, of the behind the scene video world, So knowing what you hear through the Video Grapevine world, I am willing to make almost any leap what would you recommend for future proofing – ride it out with Vegas or do what you did and switch to FCP X. We do a weekly television broadcast and are putting a new suite in our church. What do you think? Just an opinion?
Thank You

Sir John,
[I don’t use Windows anymore so my only experience with Catalyst Prepare is on a Mac. Vegas Pro is a Video for Windows application and as such it’s native Windows format is the AVI container.]
Do you not use Vegas any longer?
What is you program of preference now? If I may ask?

Sir John pardon the home made terminology:
[What is a DVD Architect archive file?]
I mean the (prepare folder) where DVD Arch keeps all the previous prepared projects with files.Where would I find the .dar file?
What I was trying to do is open the previous dvd project in DVDArch and then change the project settings to PAL and then burn the same project in PAL? Am I dreaming?
I have the original project in Vegas, but the files are cineform AVI and for what ever reason when I try to render the project again the files are inadvertently jumping between program track A&B during render – just a frame or two at random times???? I needed this DVD in PAL so I thought just to go to the DVD prepare folder and run it as a PAL output.
Thank You John

August 30, 2015 at 1:23 pm in reply to: Have moving grafics that are studdering after render?Wayne,
The project is set 1920×1080 29.97P
Maybe I should set it to 59.94 to give more frame rate?
I tried to upload a clip cant seem to get it to workPC 1

[Luxmark v2 is a good benchmark test for OpenCL, and verifying that your system is working well with opencl.]
[GPU-z and AMD system monitor are good tools to verify GPU utilization during timeline playback. Test Sony AVC, XDCAM, HDCAM-SR-lite, and XAVC media with effects to verify GPU acceleration in Vegas. Other workflows you will need to determine where the GPU acceleration problems are.]
Aaron I read the entire thread on open cl, I just installed an XFX AMD R9 290 on my PC2 system in place of Quadro k2000. Are you saying that after viewing the stats on the GPU-z for example that you can change settings to make the card more effective? or are these programs just to know the stats? I have seen an improvement on in VP13 for sure, but didn’t know, is it to be tweeked?

[John Rofrano] “You can color correct before as long as you do this at the Media FX level.”
I am sorry but, I don’t know what you mean Media FX Level? Are you meaning before Vegas?[John Rofrano] ” I would convert the 59.94 fps Panasonic footage to 29.97 fps and see if that makes a difference (it should).”
What Format/Codec to convert to? Is XAVC an intermediary? I have Cineform Premium. or should match the EX1 Footage?

Sir John, (or anyone who knows)After reading the thread, I bought a Radeon R9 290 have seen a substantial difference in VP13.PC System 2
I do 4 to 6 tracks (1/2 hour program) in multicam edit mode weekly, should I convert the footage to a particular common codec before using Multicam to be more efficient.
I have 2 tracks ex1 MP4 30P 1920×1080 35Mbps –
2 Tracks 1920×1080 59.94 fps Progressive from Panasonic (I think its 50Mbps)
and 2 tracks Canon 29.97 1920×1080 AVC
I notice it starts stuttering a little in multicam – granted I may be asking much of my computer. Also do I understand correctly color correcting before multicam is a waste as when I enable multicam I lose what I have done – or am I doing something wrong?

Sir John, this is getting discouraging! My 2 Cents
1) Vegas (as we know it) is on its way out, (Like trading in your favorite old car) usually its for the best, but hate to see it go.
Alternative:
Adobe if you want them to be your life long parole officer, and they WILL! put the screws to their cash cows when they get them in to deep take an alternate way out. Then like fuel prices UP UP UP! at adobes wish! Adobe went to the Pharaoh model – Give them food in exchange for their land – delayed gratification, in the end HE owns you! like Google, they give great stuff free! well, not free, actually, in exchange for getting to harvest all your personal information. (the Gold of the future) Go Gmail!
(and I use CS6)[but liberty is still a value and a factor]Avid – Possibly as long as they do not go the parole officer root. I was told that due to their retail business model the total parole officer root will not be possible? Hope so! Little pricy to get a full working system powerful enough to take advantage of its capabilities and training$$
Edius – Possibly if they get more third party options – also their software is odd/awkward – its growing on me – also little to no support base, unless you go in TV Station deep.
Final Cut X might be good I don’t know, but I would keep an eye whether it (X Program) is making the company money, they have already shown they will throw their customers on the railroad tracks to make their train ride smoother. I still have a MAC pro but have not pursued that root any further after climbing off the rails. Kinda leaves a bad taste.
Sony/Catalyst long road ahead – I have hopes for it! To soon to tell. Might get a New MAC if this Catalyst develops quickly.
So I am toying with Avid/Edius/Sony Catalyst – will stay with CS6& Vegas as long as they can do the deal then, I will trade them in for??????
