Well, I’m excited to have asked an original question! Chris Meyer as well as being funny is right – 3D in AE is pretty much a dreadful fudge. Thanks for trying to find out for me.

    Doh!

I must have stared at that for half an hour and didn’t spot it.

    Thanks so much.

That’s the background colour for the comp. I need to play the ram preview full screen with a black background. Still can’t figure it out!

Thanks guys. Ted, not sure I understand your technique!

I have now created a path for a camera to follow, and shelved the sure target method for now. I’ve key framed the camera’s motion along this path, and now want to give it a handheld feel. How do I add a wiggle expression without mucking up the path animation?

Also how do I have the handheld feel apply at the points the camera stops at, but make it a bit smoother during the moves?

Sorry these are dumb questions, but I haven’t used AE for a while. I do a lot of work in c4d these days and there I just add a tag, which I can then keyframe.

  • Walters suggestion is working out for me so far, thanks all!

  • drat and double drat! thanks anyway.

Thanks for all the help folks. I’m afraid I posted this just about everywhere I could find on the net! The response has been fantastic, some really experienced people helping little old me, quite humbling.

I had rejected Kinos because of cost, I need to bring this in as cheaply as possible. I’d like to work out the cost though, so in terms of lampheads, which Kinos would I use and how many?

I’ve looked at the Chimera balloon lights before, and wondered if they would work – again, what kind of lamp would I be best using with them and how many fixtures would I need?

I got an interesting response from Danny Toback of Digital Film Studios in LA, his cyc is bigger than mine and he’s successfully lighting it for green screen and limbo using 7 x 2KW spacelights. Getting f4 at 200asa. Pics on his site:

thanks adam, I do use that technique, just wondered if there was one that involved less clicking! are there any shortcuts you can use to quickly lock onto either the X, Y or Z axes?

An example would be when I’m in say a side or front view, and I want to align a spline with another object by eye, but I want to be massively zoomed in. When I zoom in to look at the edge of the spline, I can’t use the axis to move it, as it’s now outside the window. I’m sure I’m just being dumb, and there’s a better way of moving things around by eye.
