[Tom Matthies] “It’s user interface is VERY FCP like and much easier and faster when moving things around the timeline Coincidence? I wonder. .”

    Wonder what?
DS existed before Avid owned it. It was acquired when they bought Softimage from Microsoft. DS was introduced in the mid 1990s [I think it was 1995]. FCP was introduced what? 1999?
Then let us not forget Adobe Premiere – the original Randy Ubillos NLE.

So if anything FCP followed others in regards to interface. Heck, FCP still has the Adobe’esque toolbar.

All of the above with the exception of the Mac speakers. Most audio facility would do the same just to get an idea.

I am the reverse. I am proficient at both, but I find FCP just can’t keep up with me. Trimming, adjusting, scrolling, JKL’ing. Either platform, a messy projct is a mesy project. Pain in the arse. However, I do find Avid’s media management much more useable.

What I like about FCP is that everyone pretty much uses the same keyboard shortcuts. I have my own, but no big deal if I have to use the default.

April 21, 2005 at 6:32 pm in reply to: why does my audio capture at 48.0001K?

Probably because the camera does not employ locked audio. Most consumer and some prosumer cameras do this. They record with unlock audio [aka minute fluctuating samples per frame]

Most of the bigger Avid news- Symphony with Nitris hardware and their news division – where high-end stuff. It does not apply to indie editors/producers. So I doubt many FCP users would care.

There is always round 2 [IBC]

You are seeing the effects of DV compression.
So you need to change your equipment and move to DV50 [XPro] or 1:1 [XPro w/ Mojo].

[John McClary] “It is NOT Varicam style where you have 60 unique frames written to tape, and you only see some of them upon playback.”

Not totally accurate. When you shoot 24p with Varicam – it is also padded for frames in order to achieve 60p and 100 Megabits/s.
