    Hey all,
How do you listen to your sounds for your masters?

Reference speakers like Tannoy or JBL 4400s?
    Tv speakers?
    Headphones?
That speaker built into your mac?

I like my jbl 6328 5.1 setup (as I come from a recording/cinema background) but what do all you use?

I use Advent Studio Monitors. When cutting video I’d only use studio monitors. JBL Soundsticks or Creative speakers with subwoofers don’t give a true representation of the audio.

    In my opinion.

Audio is from a Decklink SP card (XLR outputs) through a Tascam mixer, then into a pair of Tannoy PBM 8’s driven with a Hafler amp.

Genelec 1030a’s with subwoof. Yamaha D1000 console. I use 2 old Fostex self-amped speakers to simulate a less than perfect home moniotring setup. This is also very representative of monitoring on a laptop with small speakers – how many of my clients listen to DVDs.

    In the Studio….

Tannoy Active’s fed through a Mackie 1402 VLZpro mixer, coming from the Cinewave SD BOB.

Pretty solid overall, and really helps hear things not heard on ‘consumer’ speakers.

All of the above with the exception of the Mac speakers. Most audio facility would do the same just to get an idea.

    Hi all:

Genelec 1029As with the Genelec 7060 sub all ran through a Mackie 1402 VLZ board.

Bought the Genelecs about 8 years ago when they first came out and have loved them ever since. I know them inside out and they “translate” mixes pretty well.

    Best,

    Dan
