So let me reframe the discussion.
“Disabling” a feature is no different with smoke and inferno. FCE and FCP. AE and AE Pro. QT and QT Pro. etc. etc.
How much does it cost for me to upgrade FCP to a working Media Manager version? How about a 24p workflow that is a bit more robust and does not require hours just to do a simple conform?

No Gary. He needs to pulldown his audio. His audio must be conformed to 47.952.

That is not exactly true. Yes 24 fps film will always play out 23.976. However, there is a difference between the two especially in regards to handling audio.
For example film is normally shopt at 24 fps flat and audio at 48 flat. If you bring the audio in as 48 in a 23.976 sequence you will have sync issues. Your audio must be pulldown.
Now in regards to EDL and cutlist, what you need is accurate edgecode and keycode to ensure EDLs will reflect the right information for the negative cutter.

I have tried to crunch numbers with the P2 workflow and long form TV series. Unfortunately, it does not look good. My only requirement was that the media always existed in two different locations at any given time – be it SAN and firewire or laptop and P2.
Even with less deck requirements – the cost was just too much. The downside of HDV is the silly prosumer decks they have out there. No RS422 even.
Economics wise, I think the HDV workflow is more feasible now for long form.

I move by I am afraid FCP would mangle the management of that pasture 😉

Mark does it take an FCP question to get you to visit this side of the pastor 🙂
The analogy makes sense at first blush, but the car performs as you want, who the heck cares what’s under the hood.
when the industry loves advertising numbers – 4:2:2, megapixel, 50 Mb/s, etc – them hiding a value that is standard to be publicly known does not bode well. I surmise it is nothing impressive. If it was it would be all over the brochure.
Prove me wrong. I doubt Pana would dare.

January 6, 2006 at 3:23 pm in reply to: No Viable and Real Alternative for Windows Editors and P2It is a niche player since its Market penetration beyond event/wedding videographers is almost nil. And even around the WEVA type users, Premiere Pro, Vegas, FCP and XPro has a much larger userbase.
I am NOT saying Edius is not a capable NLE but to deny that it is not a niche player is wrong in my opinion. It has the best software based Rt performance out there and has nice bells and whistles like RT TC burn output via firewire.
It is a good application but needs major work in things like media management, actual keyframing capabilities, alpha support and such. -
