Try transcoding them to a ProRes / animation / lossless format either through something like MPEG Streamclip or after effects.
Both of those programs open broken and corrupt video files quite well

What are the specs of the computer you will be working on?
A 2k 422 file may be fine to work with on a good machine without a proxy.
You will be recording at 2048 x 1536 but are you shooting anamorphic or square?
MPEG streamclip will allow you to make Proxies with burnt in timecode
If you go proxy route i would use ProRes – either 422 or 4444 – Same as what the Arri shoots

It sounds like it could either be a drive read/write issue or even could be a key on the keyboard sticking?? Can you try another keyboard?
Check that the permissions on the drives you are saving and rendering to are set to read and write. In the past I have had issues with a RAID misbehaving with permission issues.

How are the monitors linked to your computer?
Make sure your video playback settings are correct with sequence settings?
If you use a Kona or other card you will need to check in the settings for the card also

I export and compress interlaced footage using Adobe Media Encoder most days of the week.
Seems to work fine with h264 however I have not tried with a MPEG2 or MPEG4. I still use compressor to make my DVDs.
It pain but every time you export interlaced to AME you have to right click and interpret it – It doesn’t seem very smart when guessing progressive or interlaced like After Effects is.

I have 10.7 (up to date) and Cuda Drivers are up to date also.
Still no solution to this.. Also Using Premier pro seems to take ages to start playing clips off the timelines. eg 3 seconds..
As mentioned it seems an entirely different beast on PC than Mac. I have decided I will not be staying with Mac next upgrade round.

I have had this problem before
The videos from Vimeo play fine in Quicktime but once exported either comes up with an error or white screen. Trying to Play the file in FCP comes up with an out of memory error. MPEG Streamclip doesn’t work either.
The solution I found was drag the video into After Effects and render from there 🙂
Not sure why it happens… maybe an error in code in the video that Vimeo causes.

I have used SWF on some machines that wont play anything else.
After loading it into a browser it may play smoothly after running through once or twice.

If a h264 wont work you are quite limited..
Maybe try dropping the quality allot!
Depending how long and the type of video Maybe a SWF ? (after effects export swf)
