  • Has the H.264 interlace export bug been fixed in CS6?

I know in CS5.5, if you export interlaced footage in H.264 (even select to keep it interlaced, proper field order), it drops half the fields upon export.

To get around this, you need to export it as Blu-Ray H.264, and it then handles it properly.

This bug has been talked about quite a bit on the Adobe forums, and supposedly it was a MainConcept issue, since it’s their H.264 codec that is being used in CS5.5.

Does anyone know if this was fixed in CS6?

The problem with using the Blu-Ray H.264 way is that in order for MediaEncoder to multiplex both the video and audio, you can’t use PCM audio, you have to use Dolby Digital. And then once you do export it to a single file, the file size is quite a bit larger due to the encapsulation of .m2t instead of .mp4.

We use FlipFactory, and it handles these .m2t files just fine, including the Dolby Digital. But since we have to FTP all of our shows and commercials to our FlipFactory server (from Alabama to Virginia), any bit of file size we can reduce saves us quite a bit of time, especially when doing 100+ files a week.

In CS6 H.264 bluray multiplex still uses DD.

Yeah, I’m trying to get away from BluRay H.264, I just want to use the regular H.264 export. The problem is the bug with interlaced content, that’s what I’m trying to find out about CS6.

    And Alex, will do.

I export and compress interlaced footage using Adobe Media Encoder most days of the week.

Seems to work fine with h264 however I have not tried with a MPEG2 or MPEG4. I still use compressor to make my DVDs.

It pain but every time you export interlaced to AME you have to right click and interpret it – It doesn’t seem very smart when guessing progressive or interlaced like After Effects is.
