    I think it’s an older product and the installer may not find the newest Adobe CC versions, but it should be putting the plugins somewhere in a “⁨Final Effects Complete 7.0⁩” folder. You should be able to put that folder in the correct folder for AE to find it. I happen to be on a Mac OS system so having it in the correct folder looks like this ;

    ‎⁨Macintosh HD⁩ ▸ ⁨Library⁩ ▸ ⁨Application Support⁩ ▸ ⁨Adobe⁩ ▸ ⁨Common⁩ ▸ ⁨Plug-ins⁩ ▸ ⁨7.0⁩ ▸ ⁨MediaCore⁩ ▸ ⁨Final Effects Complete 7.0⁩

    I forget the precise path for Windows OS right now.

    Although the FEC 7 release pre-dates current Adobe versions I’m able to use this effect in AE 2019 Mac and it seems to work fine.

    the borisfx version of FEC is different (developed separately from the CC effects that come with AE) – you’d need that one to get Undistort – also it adds other things like more Kaleidoscope styles, Beat Reactor, and PixelChooser

    with this installed you will have a category called FEC Stylize and in that category is an FEC Kaleida (with Undistort)

    The FEC plugins you can find here [ https://borisfx.com/products/final-effects-complete/ ] include a kaleida effect with an “Undistort” parameter. Here I just did a render in AE 2019 animating Undistort from zero to 100 ;

  • FYI – Apple updated the bug record indicating they believe the bug is resolved and so I checked to confirm it and indeed the bug that was causing this title to crash FCP or Motion seems fixed as of last week’s updates to FCP and Motion. So if you download this title template it should work now.

    I’m not so familiar with those workflows and it looks like a standalone Mac OS app but you might want to take a look at this ;

    I know and have worked with the FxFactory guys and they do quality work making FCP X related software.

    I don’t have an answer but am also curious to know any info on this – earlier today I was seeing some scripting failures (unique to the new AE update) which I haven’t yet had time to investigate – but that would explain it (they use JSXBINs that way)

    It seems like you could probably just run this script on the final comps and have it make “true duplicates” (it also dupes and links precomps and even media if desired – all kinds of nice options, creates the new folders and lets you specify how the newly created objects named etc.)) ; https://aescripts.com/true-comp-duplicator/ – it’s a “name your own price” product but I paid the suggested $25.00 and it’s actually been worth so much more than that to me

    [Jeff Kirkland] “Maybe try the Motion forum and see if anyone there has a suggestion.”

    FWIW I don’t think (and I have looked for it in the past) that any of the Blurs that come standard with Motion offer an input for an image as blur map. It’s possible to use an image to mask between a blurred layer and an unblurred layer – but to me that’s always been kind of a half-assed way to do Tilt-Shift or fake DOF that doesn’t work as well as true variable blur

    [Marc Echstein] ” I have a grayscale Z-depth pass (white is closest to camera, black is furthest – see attached image), and I need to use that to create depth of field in FCPX. What is the best method for this?”

    Last week I just released a product for tilt-shift and simulating DOF for people who DON’T have a depth map (https://fxfactory.com/info/focuspoint/ – product page and youtube links at the end of this post)

    and so I happen to have all the tools right in front of me and so just now after reading this thread I started a module for using a depth map to do DOF – see this short screencap video with voiceover showing what I have so far

    what other kind of controls would you like to see in such an effect ?

  • [Ben Del Fante] “to create a loop where objects are falling to the bottom of the frame and as they exit they enter the top of the frame”

    Maybe using the Motion Tile effect ? (see attached project and screen grab)
