Creating exportable subtitles within FCPX

To create subtitles you want a text editor / video player combo, and preferrably one that is designed to do subtitles.

Thanks for the reply! I need something inside FCPX, ideally. Now I am using an external solution which involves too much back and forth… It would seem reasonable to have one within FCPX. Does version 10.4.x have this? I have heard of Captions in version 10.4.x…

You may have a look at my different X-Title tools – tough not Mojave compatible yet.
They allow to import subtitle format into FCP to work with FCP titles, or to export FCP titles to formats like SRT.
The tools also cover Caption handling for 10.4.x.

You can create captions in FCP X starting in 10.4.1. You have to export as ITT. Then convert it to an SRT. There lots of utilities that do this. Or even free websites.

I personally like having Subtitle Edit Pro (developer: bin liu) which can handle importing ITT. Check it against video and export again as an SRT. Or you can just do the whole thing in Subtitle Edit Pro if you want.

I also really like FxFactory and the developers there. But this particular item is WAY, WAY, WAY overpriced. It could be there’s some functionality it does that others don’t, like interface with Premiere. But it’s nothing I need. There are tons of apps for $20 or less on the Apple App Store that basically do the same thing.

Export an XML and select from the caption languages which one you want to use for SRT.

This way the buggy ITT export from FCPX doesn’t need to be fixed.

I’ll have to take a look. I think I bought it way back when. I didn’t know it could export too. These days my workflow involves automated transcription. I wish FCP had ways to deal with that, instead of having to copy and paste back into the timeline. It’s rather labor intensive and it shouldn’t be.

Hmm,

Should be easy.
Get your your files from service as ITT, import into your timeline, do your work, drag the timeline to XTCE and you are done.
