Love it! Thank you, that’s very helpful! I was expecting it to be much harder than that:-P

Okay I will go try that. We do have FCPX but honestly I HATE using it. I prefer FCP 7 and even Premiere (which we also have).
Will the MXF files import into those as well?

I’m gonna just do it like that for now since I can’t seem to separate and delete them once they’re on the timeline.ZombieCat

February 26, 2013 at 10:32 pm in reply to: Unlink and DELETE audio and video from frustated FCPx newbieThank God you answered so fast- I was pulling my hair out trying everything.
I did try Clip- Detach audio but that option is grayed out. I Double clicked the audio so that I could see the 2 channels and then found I was able to move the audio independent of the video. So I moved the audio as far over as it would let me (which was just to the end of the video and then tried deleting the video but it still deleted both of them.
Hey, is there a way I can just drop ONLY the audio from imported footage onto the timeline? Like in Avid and FCP7 it was easy- just deactivate the video track. But I don’t see a way to do that on here.
Once I figure this out- I’ll go look for your blog because I know I’ll be right back here with more questions before I finish this stupid package that should have been EASY. >:(

Argh! Now I can’t even get the camera to show up when directly connected via fire wire Super Angry
Now I have to capture vi some other program like Nero, CONVERT, then import into Avid.
The camera I’m capturing from is a Sony Model No. HRV-A1U. DO I need to TELL Aid to capture from that? It usually recognizes right away when I connect a device…

Video CodecsI will try just switching the Adrenaline firewire to another port- just to rule that out. I don’t see anything about “Avid Technology Adrenaline” in the Device manager…does that mean the problem could be a missing driver? Why would it disappear so suddenly and how do I get it back?
I hate to have to uninstall/re-install Avid as I have a lot of saved projects that I don’t want to lose- There’s a weekly news segment that all I have to do is change the b-roll and VO …the rest of the CG’s (which took me a while to create) are static on the timeline so I don’t have to redo them every segment. Blah! Is there a way I can back up/store my bins and projects so they will open in the re-install without me having to do all that work again?
The other producer uses a Mac and Final Cut- and we DO have an extra Mac workstation- I can just install Final Cut there and use that but I’d have to start fresh with everything AND I’m really more of a PC/Avid person..I’d have to take even MORE time re- familiarizing myself with FC and Mac… Sad

Thanks! AE sounds easier if I can make them into one file from the get go.
Can I also set the length of each photo before I Import them into AE/Make them into One file?
Umm..
Can you walk me through it-I’ve never worked with photos in AE, plus I’m going to let my son “help” so he can feel like he “made” it tooI’ll Start…
1. I have a sequence of jpgs numbered 1- whatever.
2. I open up AEand…

I’ll try this- and thanks for the step by step. That doesn’t work , I look for tutorials. Problem with tuts are that they take long and I’m on a deadline, also, not knowing exactly what in my shot needed to be adjusted, it would be hard to find the right tut specific to my problem. Sure wish there was a way to make a clip down loadable to you guys here so you could “fix” it and just tell me what you did 🙂

There are curves in AMC- I just don’t know how to use them or what I’m adjusting. I played around with them but , like I said, just made it look worse. Thanks for telling me exactly what to fix- that’s a first step, at least, since I knew the color was wrong-just not what is was. Now, I just need to try to go about fixing it. With my limited knowledge and based on what people tell me here…

I printed your advice for future use, hee hee!
Well, since I had the time and am using the Avid here at work, I used Jon’s method which worked great (thanks)!
When I am at home working on a personal project I will more than likely use Eric’s. I tend to be impatient and exporting right to QT cuts out a few steps. The file size does’nt bother me because I throw all of my finished projects onto two 500 gig external hard drives so I can keep my computer from getting too clogged.
Thanks,
Dionne
