    Hi Blaine
I just spent a 2 hours investigating your problem and can confirm you have definitely found a bug in VEGAS Pro 22. I own every version of VEGAS Pro, going back to version 9 and have been testing VP 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22. It appears the bug started to creep into the program when VP20 was released.
On my analysis, I don’t think it has anything to do with Windows 10 vs Windows 11.
My guess is the problem has something to do with the VEGAS decoder/encoder engine, in regards to file types, BUT it also has a secondary bug related to the backup service for saving Markers and Regions created in the Trimmer Window.
When you add Markers/Regions in older versions of VP, it’s secondary action is to create a new .sfl file which is saved in the same location your video files is located. I believe (guessing) that a tiny range of older professional video types can actually save Markers & Regions inside the actual video file, like XDCAM. Most people are not using these older formats, so VEGAS Pro should be at least creating a .sfl file, which simply saves marker/region data.
If you own an older version of VP, you could create Markers with that, which will save an .sfl file. When you open the same videos with VP22, it should be able to read the .sfl file and show Markers.

I am a member of the Beta testing team, so I will report this bug and see what they say. When I get some good information, I will report back here for you.
    Regards, Derek

VEGAS Movie Studio was retired by MAGIX, the new owners of VEGAS Software in 2022 and replaced with a completely different program, that has nothing to do with VEGAS. To continue using a similar software program that won’t require learning from scratch, I recommend upgrading to VEGAS Pro Edit or VEGAS Pro Suite. VEGAS Pro Edit is the full version of VEGAS Pro, just by itself. The “Suite” version comes with extra programs.
Something important to note. To get the most out of VEGAS Pro, you will need a modern computer with a decent Graphics Card, like a mid-range Nvidia. AMD also works well, but Nvidia is better. This is because VEGAS Pro makes a lot of use out of GPU acceleration. If you are using a dinosaur computer, I do not recommend upgrading to VEGAS Pro, until you buy a new computer. Your current version of VEGAS Movie Studio will work better on an old computer than the latest versions of VEGAS Pro.
A good work around for your current problem, is to use a program called Handbrake, and convert your DJI video into a standard .mp4 format, that Movie Studio can accept. On my website, I have a good Beginners Guide for how to use Handbrake, if you have never used it before. It is a bit old now, but the basics are still the same with latest version of Handbrake.

VEGAS Pro 22 will most likely be released in August. You will qualify for the upgrade offer, because you already own an older version of VEGAS. Right now there is a 2 for 1 offer. Get VP21 now and VP22 for free, when it is released. I recommend downloading the free trial and testing it on your computer, before spending money. Details of this are on my website, if you read my Handbrake tutorial.

    Hi Dave

I have no experience with importing DJI video into VEGAS Pro, however I can guess as to what is causing the problem.

Firstly, which version of VEGAS Pro are you using, because VP has changed a lot over the last couple of years?

A good overview of your problem, has already being discussed on the official VEGAS Pro forums here.
    https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/my-drone-footage-does-not-import–135236/

There are two or three settings you need to look at:

    1. If your video was encoded using HEVC, you will need to turn on HEVC decoding in the Vegas Preferences.

    2. You may also have to switch Hardware decoding from Intel to Nvidia or AMD, if you have an Intel CPU and an Nvidia or AMD graphics card.

    3. You may also have to install HEVC codec in Windows, to allow playback of HVEC files on Windows.

These screen shots are from VEGAS Pro 21 (press images to see full screenshot).

    1. Go to Options / Preferences / File I/O

Turn on Enable experimental HEVC decoding.

    2. If you have an Intel CPU and Nvidia/AMD GPU, set RAW processor = Nvidia or AMD and Hardware Decoder = Nvidia or AMD. Apply settings and re-boot VEGAS Pro.

  • This looks like a simply settings problem in VEGAS Pro.
I’m not an expert on this type of thing, but I recommend you ask your question on the official VEGAS Pro forums here. I was casually reading the official forum a few days ago, and read a post about dealing with SLog3. It’s important to set the correct settings, so that the proper colour space is rendered. It might be as simple as setting the Pixel Format in your Project Properties to 32-bit Floating Point (video levels). However, there may be more to the story, so please ask the guys on the forum I have given you. They should be able to help out!

  • Hi Neil
I’m very happy to hear you worked out a solution 😀
At the moment I am very busy working on creating my own new tutorials for VEGAS Pro, after a very long absence due to poor health. It is rare for me to reply on the Creative Cow VEGAS Pro forum, because I have my own VEGAS forum at MovieStudioZen.com that keeps me busy. It was shear luck that I noticed your original message the other day and sent that link to my old tutorial.

When I have some free time (soon), I will definitely try to replicate your workflow, so that I can understand precisely what you have discovered. I would also be interested in turning this into a new tutorial, because the gold you have discovered needs to be shared. I’ve bookmarked this thread, so if I need some help, I’ll contact you. I like to post screen shots of all steps, when write a tutorial guide, so that no steps are skipped!
    Regards, Derek.

  • Hi Neil
I have an old tutorial on my website that shows different ways to adjust extreme brightness.
There is a written tutorial and also a video you can watch. It should be self explanatory.

September 14, 2022 at 1:50 am in reply to: Render Issue

I can’t remember 100%, but I think an update to Windows 10 broke AVCHD rendering in older versions of Vegas Pro. There is nothing you can do to fix this problem.

I recommend rendering to MAGIX AVC/AAC instead!

September 14, 2022 at 1:46 am in reply to: VEGAS 12 pro WINDOWS ARE COMPLETELY MESSED UP

Go to View / Window Layouts / Default Layout – this should restore to the default layout.

If that does not work, I recommend a full program reset.
Hold CTRL + Shift keys and double-click program icon to launch program.
Select Delete all Cached Application Data and then press Yes.

  • Hi Rich
Image Sequence render option is available for most VEGAS Pro 19 users. It’s working on my computer – please note I am using Windows 11.
There is a thread about this topic on the official Vegas Pro forums here:
    https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-19-missing-image-sequence-as-a-render-option–133068/

The lead developer for VEGAS, posted a message about this problem here:
    https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-19-missing-image-sequence-as-a-render-option–133068/?page=2#ca830279

Unfortunately, it appears you are one of the few unlucky people that suffer from this problem.

I also read the comments for that HEIF app on the Microsoft store – doesn’t sound good.
    https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/heif-image-extensions/9PMMSR1CGPWG?hl=en-gb&gl=gb

Most likely it is a Windows bug and/or something about your specific Windows configuration that is causing the problem.
