    Ok cool, Thanks!

I will be testing it this weekend using a trial of sony vegas pro 8.

Have you ever used it in crucial situations where you very much depended on it working and functioning properly to capture video of something all day long?

we are going to be taping a sports event (single cam coverage)- but this time while we test it out, we are going to have our normal camera guy shooting to tape, and another camera guy shooting to disk…. it is like a 14 hour event…. so we need to make sure it works all day long. The event is broken up into about 12 1-1.5hr separate events, so we will have several hard drives to swap out to our editing/sales area…..

    Thanks,
    Derek

just to add to the drive info…. most drives can be fat 32 or NTFS, you just have to format them to be one or the other…… this is always a good thing to do as soon as you get the drive, before you fill it with tons of stuff as a fat32….

    2 possible thoughts……

the final sequence you are exporting….. is it a “nested” sequence? if you have a nested sequence in your final sequence, try just copying and pasting all the original, multilayer sequences in a final timeline, re-render, then export.

Another thing that used to happen to me (before I downloaded updates) is after I would render, my audio would jump around and/or go out of synch. Before I downloaded needed updates, I just put tons of razor marks and slices in my audio, somehow, this fixed the final rendered mov.

one other thought is that if the video you are working with might be set at 30fps, and your export settings might be at 29.97 fps, make sure you are always working in 29.97. If you are exporting from Affter Effects and bringing it in to FCP, make sure you record in 29.97fps.

I hope this helps, I know what its like to have a deadline and unexplainable things happen at the last second…..

I also use the WD 500 Gig via USB 2.0. They work great. One is a year old, and one is 6months old.

I had a Lacie, and it crashed once, got it repaired, then after 6 months, it wouldn’t turn on.

Seagate Barracuda sounds good though too, I was unaware it had a 5yr warranty….
