HELP PLEASE! Deadline approaching
Posted by Brian Thomson on June 10, 2008 at 5:48 pmI hate to be one of those guys but here I am. I have a 23 min file consisting of HDV1080i60 footage that I am trying to export then burn using iDVD. The quicktime file looses sync at the 18 min mark. There are no changes in settings. Anyone got some advice? My deadline is 2p it is now almost 11. Thanks

June 10, 2008 at 5:50 pmCan you split it up into smaller sections and then put together in iDVD

June 10, 2008 at 5:51 pmas in separate chapters? It needs to play uninterrupted. Will iDVD go from one video to the next smoothly?

June 10, 2008 at 6:02 pmOh, iDVD has no timeline to piece things back together, DVD Studio Pro does thats what i would use to do this.
Does the movie you export from final cut when played in quicktime have the same sync problem?

June 10, 2008 at 6:08 pmCheck the export options you are using. Make sure you export as a self contained file.
It could be the case that you are exporting to a different framerate?
Do you have DVD SP?

the final sequence you are exporting….. is it a “nested” sequence? if you have a nested sequence in your final sequence, try just copying and pasting all the original, multilayer sequences in a final timeline, re-render, then export.
Another thing that used to happen to me (before I downloaded updates) is after I would render, my audio would jump around and/or go out of synch. Before I downloaded needed updates, I just put tons of razor marks and slices in my audio, somehow, this fixed the final rendered mov.
one other thought is that if the video you are working with might be set at 30fps, and your export settings might be at 29.97 fps, make sure you are always working in 29.97. If you are exporting from Affter Effects and bringing it in to FCP, make sure you record in 29.97fps.
I hope this helps, I know what its like to have a deadline and unexplainable things happen at the last second…..

June 11, 2008 at 8:13 pmAWESOME! The un-nesting worked! I wonder why that would have made a difference. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your help. I never would have made my hard deadline yesterday without your help. Cheers!
