Michael Garber “I have found more bugs and strange behavior in X than I care to elaborate on here. That is the line in the sand for me.”
Then why are you using an FCPX logo for your avatar? 😉
just sayin’…

Sounds like a nightmare. Just use Premiere Pro… 😉

santiago marti “But truth be told, it is the fastest Windows to date, no doubt.”
That’s good to hear- I’m glad it’s working well for you.
While I’ve wondered about how well it will work for standard desktop PCs, the idea of using it on a tablet does sound cool. The Metro interface looks very similar to Windows Phone 7- which, although marginalized by iOS and Android, is actually a really good OS from what I hear.
One new idea I had that I thought would be cool- and I’ve heard they ARE actually working on these- is a laptop with a screen panel that can be swiveled around and closed with the screen facing up. That way it could be used as a tablet OR a laptop…

Well, it’s good to see people are using it and even running PPro CS6 on it and liking it. That’s encouraging.
How do you get to the metro tiles to launch a program without the start button though? There’s a key on the keyboard with a Windows logo that now brings up the start menu, does that get you there?
I’m guessing Win 8 will make a lot more sense when used with a touchscreen monitor. I’m not sure I’d want to use one for a desktop though- having to raise my arms over and over again to poke and swipe at stuff seems like it would get tiring after a while…

Bret Williams This isn’t a major rewrite to 64 bit. It’s not a new app. It’s a decent upgrade, but nothing that should have been an overwhelming endeavor.
I know to us casual observers it might seem that way, but there was actually a lot going on under the hood for this version. Re-writing the Mercury Engine to use OpenCL was very likely no small task. They also re-built the entire timeline and entirely overhauled the audio aspects.
Also keep in mind, a lot of the plans Adobe originally had for PPro CS6 probably got pushed aside when the FCP refugees started pouring in and asking for changes.
All things considered, I think Adobe did an incredible job.

John Davidson how the heck do you turn off the automatic playback of the sequence after render?
In Preferences under General- uncheck “Play work area after rendering previews”

[Bret Williams] I’m just choosing the blackmagic presets
WAIT- are you using the same Blackmagic drivers as in 5.5 to set up a sequence preset in 6? If you are that may be your problem. They changed it so you don’t need to do that anymore. That’s what the whole “mercury transmit” thing is about. You just tell premiere what device you want to use to monitor with, and it works for any sequence.
I believe Blackmagic has 6.0 specific drivers now.

Shane Ross “I hate that with a passion. FILM STRIP…ugh. Makes the timeline look so “busy.” Very distracting.”
Totally agree. I don’t like the still version, and the fact that in FCPX the frames change as you skim over them makes it even more annoying. And I don’t like the idea of the cursor scrubbing the timeline without the playhead being moved either. I know some people are totally into that, but I like to be able to stop and think before making an edit, without being bombarded by stimulation. Using FCPX is like being inside a casino or something.
One thing about X that I DO LIKE though, and wouldn’t mind seeing in Premiere Pro, is the dynamic nature of the audio waveforms. I like the fact that they change shape on-the-fly when you adjust the levels, and turn yellow then red when the level is too high.
(Other than that they’re crap though. They’re too small and the shape is all wrong.)

Chris Harlan What I was actually babbling about was the lack of included transitions.
Someone in the Premiere Pro forum recommended these transitions a while back and I thought they were pretty good, especially “impact flash”. And they’re free, which is really cool.
The author of these seems pretty committed to Premiere Pro already, as they were apparently re-written to 64-bit recently, and they’re boasting on the site that “they’re ready for CS6”
They are available for PPro and also FCP 7. There’s a couple that are FCP-exclusive, but I suspect that might change before too long… 😉
