    you can preview them at:

    and

    download them at:

All you do is add them to you video track 2 or layer above and use “screen” as your compositing or blending mode.

January 18, 2011 at 9:14 pm in reply to: Panasonic Plasma Monitoring Solution for davinci

Just in response, Illya has pointed out that by buying a Panasonic Viera VT25 or any of the consumer variety with THX processing you can get it into Rec 709 spec without employing any kind of LUT box or LUT generator. Granted you have a probe and calibration software, otherwise you can hire an ISF or THX technician to do it. AV Foundry’s Video EQ Pro has continued to make inroads now offering 3D and LUT capability with a new MAC OS interface. So if you need a video processor to get REC 709 specs I believe this is one of the best solutions out there for price performance. Other than that, go with the consumer variety with Panasonic plasmas with THX and you’ll be spot on.

    Suggested tools:

    Xrite Hubble Probe
    Spectracal Calman
    AV Foundry VideoEQ Pro 3D

December 20, 2010 at 5:48 pm in reply to: Transfer/Blend Modes as a Resolve Feature

You can create all kinds of different creative looks with blend modes, plus solve some technical problems. Photoshop artists have been using them for a long time to create different looks. Blending modes effectively change the arithmetic of how images are processed. As already pointed out Assimilate Scratch offers blending modes as well as Nucoda Film Master.

I would suggest using Spectracal’s Calman and a good non contact probe such as the hubble probe. If you’re not willing to invest in this I would suggest hiring an ISF or THX certified technician to do it. But investing may be a more cost effective means to periodically calibrate to avoid any drifting.

Thanks Warren, that really means a lot to get your feedback. Took a class this last May with Kevin in LA, hope that you do Resolve training in the states and not just down under 🙂

    Chrispy,

Thank you for your answer. I agree, I would like to see transfer mode options added to nodes a future feature of Resolve.

With the node options provided if they were to be compared to transfer modes what would be there respective equivalent, i.e. serial on davinci comparable to “normal” etc. etc.

October 20, 2010 at 7:39 pm in reply to: HDMI output and 4.4.4.

This response from Albert Chu of BMD:

This update to support HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 is only available on the HDLink
DisplayPort 3D. I am under the impression this is due to updated and newer
hardware on the HDLink DisplayPort 3D.

    and

As far as I know, the HDLink Pro will only ever do 8 bit. But I’ll still be happy to re-log this request.

The HDLink DisplayPort I assume uses the same mini display port popular on newer mac graphics cards and macbook pro. Please advise if this is correct. My apologies if this is a stupid question.

I suppose the HDLink DisplayPort 3D would be the adapter to go for rather than the AJA.

  • Touche! Lightspace would be perfect then 🙂

  • Robert,

Just to warn you Lightspace is an amazing product for converting and building custom LUT’s, however that is all predicated on it being able to generate a correct profile of the plasma. Unless they’ve resolved this issue there are some really big challenges for creating profiles from Panasonic plasmas. I would highly suggest contacting Steve Shaw at Light Illusions to see if they’ve resolved this. He’s a really nice guy! Lightspace didn’t work for me because I couldn’t get it to create the correct profile for my Panny.

Additionally VideoEQ Pro is great in conjunction with Calman but it doesn’t allow you to feed it a LUT, (that feature may be added in the future), though if Calman allows you to calibrate for other color spaces like P3, the VideogEQ Pro has custom presets, so you could build a LUT for Rec709, P3, etc and assign it to the different presets respectively.

    Cheers,
