Your footage is ‘offline’ and you need to relink it. in your project panel, select the media with the question mark and right click and select ‘link media’. from there it will ask you to locate the media using a media browser type window. navigate and find the missing file and assuming that all of the media is in the same place it was last time, Premiere pro will automatically relink all of the media in your project.

media going offline is most common when someone opens a project with a new version or if they have moved their project from one drive to another.

    Hope this helps.

  • try clearing your media cache and trash preferences. Also, what the others have said is 100% true. More RAM is especially crucial. If you want to guarantee better performance for the future, I’d highly recommend maxing your RAM. i guarantee it will be money well spent.

  • [Walter Soyka] “No, it’s not irrelevant at all. Format is where you trade bandwidth (disk speed) against decode complexity (CPU/GPU). If we’re looking at multiple channels of 4K playback on a given system, how the system is stressed and where the bottlenecks lie is germane to the conversation.”

Once again, it is Walter with timely posts filled with essential facts. The above is where the rubber meets the road.

[Jon Doughtie] “Benjamin, processor effects like Warp Stabilizer usually are pretty good at addressing footage with issues in the X and Y axis.

Your walkthrough shots are changing every moment in the Z axis as well. This makes it almost impossible for effects like these to compensate, because the parameters of the shot they use to adjust also keep changing.”

Give this man a gold sticker! 😉 Heck, everyone else can have one too.
if you have a long continuous shot that is constantly changing, there becomes no point of reference. One possible solution or workaround is to cut up the shot where possible and warp stabilize them separately. now, you’ll have to do a dissolve or something to stitch it together, but at least it will provide a stabilized view of your media.

    Hope this helps,

If you’re using CS6 and Quicktime, realize that you’re still using Quicktime in a 32bit environment. We do a good job of playing back QT regardless, but If you’re having a bunch of performance issues, one thing would be to test another format for your graphics and see if that helps you any.

AVCHD and HDV footage are both more challenging to scrub since they’re longGOP codecs. That said, I have found CC to do a much better job at scrubbing on longGOP footage than CS6. As for NVIDIA drivers, they had a few drivers recently that I found to be problematic so for the time I am using 310.90 WHQL. NVIDIA is working to resolve the issue and new drivers should be posted soon (they’re in beta).

As for the HDD… what’s your sustained read/write speeds? Is it a RAID 0? If not, consider switching it to RAID 0 to get maximum performance. Beyond that, just fully optimize the drives by defragging. There are tons of PC utilities and probably at least one Mac one.

    [Travis Roesler] “Windows is garbage.”

Windows may be garbage in your mind but,

[Travis Roesler] “I need the processing speed and power.”

There is no arguing that Windows boxes offer substantially more processing power than Macs do.

That said, if you want a MacPro than either the Tube or the last gen MacPro would probably be your best bets. I’m assuming a hackintosh is out of the question for you. Make sure you get a lot of RAM for any 64-bit app you use.
