How to Stop Lag on Playback? Already on 1/4 Resolution Paused and Playback
I’ve never had this problem before but iv been sent some movs as part of a editing job and i make new sequence clip from file in premiere pro cs5.5 and the sequence settings are AVCHD square pixel 25p 1280×720,Square Pixels, No Fields 48000Hz.
I have a MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Startup Disk Macintosh HD. The movs play fine in quicktime but play choppy in pro as I say never had these problems with AVCHD before and have tried converting to H.264 and Prores then reimporting but still lags, My media scratch disks are in a folder in my documents as they always have been, if i partion a drive and make set my scratch disks to that partitioned drive, I haven’t partitioned a drive before and will back up my work first to be safe but would that make a difference as I want to avoid doing that if possible as have all my work on my laptop so dont want to rush in to something and accidentily delete my work.Please help

AVCHD is a very power needy codec.

Your machine is outdated.

You really should have a fast external drive for your media.

As I say I haven’t had a problem with AVCHD before so that doesn’t really help…

Unsure why it worked the first time, but you do have three strikes against you. Old machine, using the internal drive, and AVCHD native.
Premiere hungers for resources. It likes lots of RAM, fast processors, and a graphics card that enables CUDA and the Mercury Engine. That’s how you get the best performance.
Hmm…it was working, then stopped…it your hard drive getting full? The fuller the drive, the slower the seek speed.

it’s working fine on other current pro projects where I’m working with bigger AVCHD files, it’s just these particular AVCHD files, 335GB of space. I just converted the movs using Adobe media encoder into proxies, quicktime, jpeg 2000 640×480 and make a new project in pro then make a sequence from clip and still with these jpeg2000 files it’s stuttering like pro can only play 1 out of every 5 frames and when i play the clips in quicktime all is fine, any ideas and I would be extremely greatful?

try clearing your media cache and trash preferences. Also, what the others have said is 100% true. More RAM is especially crucial. If you want to guarantee better performance for the future, I’d highly recommend maxing your RAM. i guarantee it will be money well spent.
