Very true. How can you talk compositing and not mention the top programs?

Hi Noam,
I’m sure your end results are correct but without posting an almost exhaustive list of your settings on both programs and your methodology for testing, it’s just too subjective. I’d welcome the opportunity to see this article with all of that information presented. If you did that, I’d be happy to forward on to AME engineering as we are always striving to improve our quality when we can. Quantifiable data is always the best way to do that.

I have a bunch of RED footage and use it to demo quite a bit. I actually work for Adobe…sorry I didn’t mention that before.
If you do a lot of GPU and have a RED Camera, do be sure to have a decent GPU card in there (if you can) as we recently added the ability to have the GPU assist in the RED debayer process – essentially creating a kind of RED rocket card.

10.9.4 is really the way to go. 10.9.3 gave a few vendors some problems.
I feel pretty comfortable with Premiere Pro 8.0.1 and Mavericks 10.9.4

Besides all of the handy comments already made, I will say that rotoscoping and clean edge mattes are much easier than before. Hand rotoscoping is laborious, plain and simple. Take a look at the help file and it should help put you on the right track.

Peter and James are correct – this is an AE feature. The point tracker is the oldest tracker in AE. The Camera Tracker and Mocha are two newer ones that might also serve you well.
Anyway, the help file is very useful in describing how to get a good point track with the tool.

Did you change anything else when you updated to 2014? Update your Mac OS or anything?

You can display a modification date in the project panel display but you cannot sort via this field.

Couple of things to try:
1 – If you’re on Mavericks, you should be on 10.9.4
2 – If using CUDA, then make sure you’re on the latest
3 – trash preferences, clean cache
4 – if you have a lot of plugins (hundreds) you should uninstall some as there is a known issue with MAvericks and number of plugins.HTH,
