  • Thanks for the quick response John, I’ll give that a go. Yeah I’m pretty new with using HDV because I’ve pretty much stayed with SD.

    Cheers,
    Dennis

It was just the release notes page from Apple for DVD Studio Pro.

  • Eric: my Apple DVD player is version 4.6.5, also I couldn’t test the photoshop menu thing because I honestly have never made a layered menu using photoshop in DVD SP.

I saw a site that was talking about some of the newer updates to DVD SP, in the HD section, there was this paragraph saying:

“some HD DVD Players incorrectly position button highlights when they are placed over 720p or 1440i backgrounds. Button highlights placed over 480i, 480p and 1080i backgrounds are correctly positioned.”

I’m working with 1440 x 1080i footage, and my exported projects are also 1440 x 1080, with the new info I got I set DVD SPs track and menu resolution to 1920 x 1080. Aside from that I replaced the .jpg file I was using as a background from a 1440 x 1080i file to a 1920 x 1080. This seems to have fixed the problem.

    Thanks for the help,
    Dennis

  • Well the thing is I’m not using progressive footage, all my footage is interlaced and my exported files are also set as interlaced.

The H.264 still isn’t importing into DVD Studio Pro.

    It’s really weird, I don’t know why.
I just resorted to using the .MPEG format for HD DVD output.

I’d still like to find out how you use the H.264 for DVD SP, if you have any other suggestions I’m all ears.

    Thanks again,
    Dennis

  • Michael,

Thanks for the reply, lowering the max bitrate doesn’t help. From compressor, using the HD DVD H.264 setting, the resulting H.264 file can’t be imported into DVD Studio Pro.
I’m honestly not so sure what to do anymore, I followed the tutorial on this:
    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/hd_dvds_on_sd_dvds_young.html
    link, but still didn’t work.

Do you have any other suggestions?
I need my final output to be HD DVD, not SD DVD, but I’m using DVD-R.

    Cheers

    Hi all,

I’ve just hit that blu-ray problem since before now, I’ve only been outputting to SD DVD, or HD DVD for shorter promo clips.

I’m a mac editor and I’ve heard that DVD SP 4 still can’t support blu-ray (there’s a “Blue Laser” disc media option in DVD SP 4 but i haven’t tested it because i still don’t have a Blu-Ray burner).

My macintosh doesn’t have the windows OS installed in it, so I can’t use “Scenarist” or “Blu-Print” which are the softwares you’ve suggested. I’ve googled my options for blu-ray software and found Roxio Toast® 8 Titanium, which is supposed to be able to author blu-ray discs. (I need to author the blu-ray disc with menu)
Is this true? Has anyone tested this software out along with a blu-ray burner?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Dennis

  • Noah,

Thanks for the reply, so can you please tell me if I’m going about this the right way, since what I’m doing is:

-Exporting the Apple ProRes 422 movie from FCP using Export as Quicktime, current settings.
-Once I have that, I drag that movie into Compressor and convert it using the DVD presets, using the best quality m2v DVD setting in Compressor.
-From there I just drag the m2v into my assets in DVD SP.

I know it can’t be the same quality and there’s going to be resolution loss, but I just want to know if this is the best way of going about doing this.

    Cheers

  • Thanks, I’ll give it a try!
I don’t have the most recent photoshop since I’m only working with Photoshop 7, so if I’m going to be using a 1920×1080 image size, what’s the title safe area?
