    Hi Michael,

For what you’re describing, I find that converting to MPEG-4 or WMV is a pretty suitable output format.

I normally just use the MPEG-4 setting on compressor, possibly increase the video bit rate on the Inspector tab and that does a pretty decent job of outputting the videos. MPEG Streamclip also does a pretty good job of converting to MPEG-4.

For WMV files, you can purchase Telestream’s Flip4Mac, I got the “WMV Studio” ($49), and this will let you use MPEG Streamclip to output to Windows Media format.

    Hope that helps!

    Cheers,
    Dennis

  • Hi Mike,

I’ll look into getting another hard drive installed in this computer so all project media are separate from software and OS.

Out of curiosity, does this just make the station more stable? Or does it speed up performance?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Chris,

I’ll give it a shot with a sequence in this project, the only reason I used the animation codec is because I needed Alpha layers.
Yes they’re all the same frame rate.

    Thanks for the input!

  • Hi Martin,

I’ll try the graphics card out first (fingers crossed, taking out one of the 2 graphics cards will fix the problem), otherwise I’ll have to check RAM chips to see if one (or more) of them is faulty.

Before the machine was replaced, I also went through the RAM troubleshooting taking out each RAM chip and seeing if the machine started working better and a technician actually replaced ALL the chips with brand new ones but the problem wasn’t resolved.

I really hope it’s the graphics card, although I tested plugging only 1 graphics card at a time, I never physically removed the graphics card. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Have you heard of this issues about FCP not liking multiple graphics cards? I only read it recently on a few forums.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi Patrice,

Thanks for the reply, what I did before with the dual graphics card was basically only plug one in, but both of them are still connected to the machine. I’ll actually try taking one of the graphics cards out (I read in a few forums that mention FCP not liking 2 graphics cards) and see how I go.

As for the picture sizes and animation codec, that was also something that ProApps support kept on mentioning, the thing is the project works fine on a computer that’s even slower but with exact same software which makes me think more and more that the problem isn’t with the project itself or with the codecs being used, but rather with hardware. Only thing is this is a brand new mac, and the unit that was sent back to be replaced by this one had identical specs but it repeated the EXACT same glitches (I don’t know what the odds are of Apple actually sending 2 faulty computers).

As for the hard drive, it actually isn’t partitioned, there’s only one 1TB hard drive installed in the machine, does it make the station work better if 2 hard drives are to be installed? Or do you mean just partitioning the 1 drive?

    Thanks again for the feedback.

    Cheers,
    Dennis

Yes I am working with a Black Magic Decklink Extreme card.

My previous work station had a Black Magic card but it was never really connected to any external devices. With that I never had this issue.

Would it be possible the issue is being created because of the Black Magic Card?
That doesn’t seem to make sense but I’m not really sure what else I could try.

    Thanks for the info Michael.

I’ve been able to work around the problem so far but it’s still an inconvenience that shouldn’t be there so I was just curious if it’s a common bug in FCS3 or if it’s just something regarding my FCP settings.

Just to add a bit more info I just did an update on Pro Applications and my FCS is fully updated.

I’ll keep playing around trying to fix the issue but if you find anything out please let me know.

    Thanks again!

  • Thanks for the suggestion, I’m afraid at the moment I can’t switch to a PC workflow.

  • Hi Walter,

Thank you for your quick response, i think for now I will give up on attempting to create fully customized blu-ray discs, mainly because I can’t really afford to spend the amount of time on Encore, having read more posts that seem to point to a conclusion that Encore simply is not a good solution for blu-ray authoring.
I’ll stick to Mac because I don’t want to invest on a PC system.

I would like to ask if you would have any suggestions for a reliable external blu-ray firewire burner for Mac systems?
For now I will simply stick with the blu-ray authoring capability of toast 10, at least until a better blu-ray solutions comes out for Mac.

Disappointing that FCS still hasn’t said anything about blu-ray authoring.

    Cheers,
